Male Facial Contouring (Square Jaw Surgery, Cheekbone Surgery, Chin Surgery) - Explained by a Specialist

Facial contouring cases are usually explained mainly for women, and since there is less information or fewer reviews for men, I think it can be difficult to find the information you want if you are currently considering male square jaw surgery or male facial contouring.

Today, a patient who had male facial contouring involving three procedures (male square jaw surgery, cheekbone surgery, and chin surgery) in the summer of 2018 came in for a follow-up checkup. In this post, following the previous one, I will also explain with before-and-after photos of male facial contouring.

First, one of the most common things people say during consultations is, 'What if my face becomes feminine after male facial contouring surgery?'

Unlike women, men generally prefer a face that still retains some angles rather than an overly smooth and soft facial shape.

In the case of male square jaw surgery and male facial contouring, if the surgery is performed in the same direction as it is for women, the result may actually become feminine, as many people worry. A soft and round face like a woman's is probably not the direction you want.

Therefore, male facial contouring surgery is performed with this in mind, leaving a certain degree of angularity in the facial contours.

Excessively developed bones and protruding bones can create a crude and rough impression, but if only the uneven parts are refined and the balance is corrected, developed bones can instead create a more masculine impression and produce good results.

I will explain with photos.

This photo was taken before the male facial contouring triple procedure (male square jaw surgery, cheekbone surgery, and chin surgery) in July of the year before last. As you can see, the patient has protruding cheekbones and a square jaw that is also significantly developed, creating a bumpy facial shape that gives a strong and rough impression.

If the facial line is well organized and the contours are developed, a male square jaw can also be seen as an advantage. But in this patient's photo, the cheekbones, square jaw, and chin are all developed widely and unevenly, giving a rough impression.

For reference, among patients who visit for revision male facial contouring, there are cases where the cheekbone area is flat and the jawline has become softer than necessary. When that happens, the face can look feminine or leave an awkward impression after surgery.

I say that it is important not only to remove overly developed bones, but also to consider the amount of bone left behind after surgery, as this is an important point in improving surgical results.

This is a photo taken today. The protruding cheekbones have been moved inward, and the previously uneven jawline has also been neatly refined. However, even after surgery, you can see that the face still retains angles that give a masculine impression rather than a feminine and soft feeling.

If you compare them side by side, the most protruding part of the cheekbone (MMP) has moved from the side of the face toward the center, and although the lower jaw was also unevenly developed, it was reduced while also considering the width of the cheekbones to create balance.

The asymmetry issue has also improved significantly. As the width of the face became narrower and the left-right asymmetry was corrected, the overall face gained a greater sense of balance.

From the side view, the cheekbones, square jaw, and chin all still retain some angles, but because the overall facial line has been refined, the cheekbones and square jaw that looked unattractive before surgery can instead give a more masculine impression after surgery.

The bumpy and irregular facial line before surgery has been neatly organized after surgery.

Male facial contouring surgery can achieve better results when it smooths out a rough facial line while not focusing on making the face small and soft, but instead leaving the necessary angles of the face and considering the overall proportions.

Also, because the patient shown had significantly developed cheekbones, square jaw, and chin, the facial contouring triple procedure (male square jaw surgery, cheekbone surgery, and chin surgery) was performed. However, the surgery needed differs depending on the patient, so before surgery, I recommend consulting at least two or three hospitals to accurately determine which procedure is right for you.
