Hello, this is Dr. Jo Hyun-woo, director of S-Cube Plastic Surgery at Apgujeong Facial Contouring Hospital.
Today, I will share a review of lateral cheekbone reduction surgery along with a surgical case.
There are several methods for cheekbone reduction surgery,
but lateral cheekbone reduction surgery is a procedure in which the developed lateral cheekbone is cut and then pushed inward using the cheekbone’s elasticity.
Many people know this as “quick cheekbone reduction surgery.”
Lateral cheekbone reduction surgery, often called quick cheekbone surgery, is sought by many people because the surgical method is relatively simple and the recovery period is fast.
However, depending on the degree of cheekbone development in the patient, the effect of quick cheekbone surgery may be insufficient, so an accurate diagnosis before surgery is essential.
First, I will show you a patient case for whom lateral cheekbone reduction surgery is suitable.

This is the patient’s front view before lateral cheekbone reduction surgery.
The degree of cheekbone development is not severe, but the lateral cheekbones near the temples are developed to both sides, making the facial line look a little uneven.

However, in the side view, the 45-degree cheekbones below the outer corners of the eyes are almost not developed.

When the head is lifted, the developed lateral cheekbones become more noticeable.
As you can see, people with only developed lateral cheekbones can see a significant effect from lateral cheekbone reduction surgery.
I will show you photos after lateral cheekbone reduction surgery.

This photo was taken two months after surgery.

If you compare the before-and-after photos side by side, you can see that the uneven line after surgery has been refined, creating a slightly softer impression.

On the other hand, because the 45-degree cheekbones are not touched, there is not much change when viewed from the side.
As you can see from the case, if the 45-degree cheekbones are not developed, the issue can be simply resolved with lateral cheekbone reduction surgery without adding 45-degree cheekbone shaving. In that case, traditional cheekbone reduction surgery that involves cutting the 45-degree cheekbone would not be necessary.
However, if the 45-degree cheekbones are also developed, lateral cheekbone reduction surgery alone may not fully resolve the issue, and many people may feel dissatisfied.

Today, we briefly looked at this together with a review of lateral cheekbone reduction surgery.
Thank you.
