Hello. This is Dr. Jo Hyun-woo of Ipcheok Plastic Surgery.
The weather seems to be getting a little warmer, but the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures
can make it easier for your body temperature to become unbalanced.
Please be careful not to catch a seasonal cold.
Today is the fourth installment of the Facial Contouring Q&A,
about whether age matters for facial contouring.
Q1. Is there an age limit for facial contouring surgery?
A. There is no major age limit.
However, for minors whose growth is not yet complete, it is better not to undergo facial contouring surgery.
This is because if additional growth occurs after surgery, problems may arise again in that area.
Also, people over 60 may have osteoporosis, and some may have issues with bone union,
so it is better to proceed after examination.
Q2. From what age is facial contouring surgery possible?
A. Surgery is possible after facial bone growth has ended.
Usually, bone growth closes around ages 17 to 19 for men and 16 to 18 for women, but for some individuals, growth may end later.
If facial contouring surgery is performed before growth has finished, unwanted results may occur,
so it is important to have the growth plate examination checked before surgery.
Therefore, it is better for minors to avoid bone surgery, and facial contouring surgery is generally possible after age 20.
Q3. Is facial contouring surgery in your 30s or 40s too much?
A. Many people in their 30s and 40s also undergo contouring surgery.
Most people tend to think contouring surgery is mainly done by people in their 20s, but in fact many people in their 30s also have the procedure.
You may worry that aging will cause more sagging, but unless you are in your 50s or 60s, skin sagging is generally not a major concern.
If your skin elasticity is especially poor, it is a good idea to consider lifting procedures after surgery in advance.
For mild care, it may also help to continue with Shurink (lifting laser) regularly at intervals of 6 months to 1 year.
Q4. If you are older, will skin sagging come on faster after facial contouring surgery?
A. We cannot help but be concerned about skin sagging after contouring surgery.
In fact, even if we do not undergo facial contouring surgery, there are many people who manage their skin by regularly receiving lifting lasers or thread lifting starting in their mid-30s.
After contouring surgery, even if sagging is not immediately visible, I believe that consistent laser lifting will definitely be helpful. However, minimizing dissection during surgery, careful fixation during the procedure, and consistent post-operative care are important.
