Hello. I’m Director Jo Hyun-woo of 3D Plastic Surgery.
For the first column of 2022, I’d like to talk about a relatively simple topic.
Is there a season when contouring surgery is performed more often?
I’ve been a plastic surgeon for 18 years, and based on the patients I’ve seen since 2005, it seems that contouring surgery is performed most often in winter.
Why is that?

Many people tend not to want surgery during the summer, when they sweat a lot.
This is because they worry that if sweat gets on the surgical area, the wound may not heal well and the risk of inflammation or infection may be higher.
Even in summer, however, you go through the recovery period in a cool air-conditioned environment, so it can be said that contouring surgery is not affected by the season.
In fact, weather is rarely a problem.
After contouring surgery, antibiotics are taken to prevent inflammation or infection, and because the procedure is performed through an incision inside the mouth, the chance of inflammation caused by humid weather or sweat is low.
If you carefully gargle after surgery to keep the inside of your mouth clean, humid weather or sweat has little to do with inflammation.

It does seem that the most common timing varies by type of plastic surgery.
Eye or nose surgery seems to be performed throughout all four seasons, breast surgery seems to be more common in spring before summer arrives, and contouring surgery seems to be most common in winter. Perhaps this is because you can cover your face more easily while wearing the compression band after surgery.

In conclusion, while winter is the season when contouring surgery is performed the most, there is no need to schedule it specifically for a certain season.
It is not the case that you must have it in winter for inflammation not to occur or for recovery to be faster, so if you have fully understood contouring surgery, I recommend proceeding when you have enough time.
Today, I briefly talked about contouring surgery and the influence of the seasons.
Please wrap up this week well, and I will be back with another good topic.
Thank you.
