Facial Contouring Q&A 12. Side Effects of Cheekbone Surgery, Square Jaw Surgery, and Chin Surgery

Today, many patients ask a lot of questions about contouring surgery, so I have organized some common questions and information that may be helpful to know.

Q1. I heard that a secondary angle can form as a side effect of square jaw surgery. What should be done in such cases?

A. If only square jaw surgery is performed without chin surgery, an angle can form from the point where the cutting begins.

If the resection is too steep, it is described as a secondary angle.

If this secondary angle is minor, it can be corrected simply by cutting or shaving the bone, but if it is severe, revision surgery may be needed together with chin surgery.

Q2. What types of chin surgery are there?

A. Chin surgery has an extremely wide range of procedures, with more than 10 commonly used surgical methods.

Because each patient’s chin shape is different, the appropriate surgical method is chosen according to the case, such as a recessed chin, long chin, or protruding chin.

Q3. Can facial slimming be achieved with chin surgery alone without combining it with other procedures?

A. In cases of simply a wide chin or a long chin, T-shaped osteotomy or rotating shaving surgery can provide enough of a slimmer appearance.

Q4. In contouring surgery, can the bone be shaved exactly as desired?

A. Contouring surgery is not something that can be done as if we were molding clay.

The amount that the cheekbone can be reduced is determined by the thickness of the cheekbone, and the amount that the square jaw can be cut is limited by the position of the inferior alveolar nerve line, so it cannot be shaved exactly as desired.

Q5. What is the difference between 230-degree cheekbone reduction and 3D cheekbone reduction, which are unique to 입체성형외과?

A. In general, people with prominent cheekbones often undergo 3D cheekbone reduction through an intraoral incision.

The 230-degree cheekbone reduction performed at 입체성형외과 is a method in which, instead of an intraoral incision, a scalp incision is made to partially osteotomize the bone in the 45-degree area, and the bone in the rear arch is cut and pushed inward. For patients with developed 45-degree cheekbones, an additional shaving process is performed.

The degree of reduction effect varies depending on each person’s cheekbone development, so if you first accurately understand your own bone structure and choose the surgical method that suits you, you will be able to achieve good results.
