Hello, this is Director Jo Hyun-woo of 입체성형외과.
There is a contouring surgery that takes about 30 minutes and allows a quick return to daily life after surgery.
It is the 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction.
Today, I would like to clear up misconceptions about 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction and provide more accurate information so that those currently considering surgery can make the right choice without being swayed by baseless claims.
230-Degree Three-Dimensional Zygomatic Reduction
The 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction performed through a scalp incision removes the same amount of the side cheekbone as the general 3D cheekbone reduction surgery.
Of course, because there is no resection of the 45-degree cheekbone, the amount reduced in the 45-degree cheekbone area is different, but saying that it has no effect is incorrect.

CT before 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction
The CT shown here is a view of the facial bones from below looking upward.
In the 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction, the 45-degree cheekbone area is not completely cut out; only part of it is osteotomized, while the side cheekbone is fully osteotomized.

CT after 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction
If you look at the post-surgery CT, the side cheekbone has moved inward, and the bones have fully fused, showing a state of good natural adhesion.
Of course, if the side cheekbone were simply pushed inward and left as is, the 45-degree cheekbone would remain. However, in patients with a developed 45-degree cheekbone, the partially osteotomized 45-degree cheekbone area is shaved to reduce its volume.

CT before and after 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction
As you can see, not only has the side cheekbone moved inward, but the 45-degree cheekbone has also been smoothly shaved, reducing its volume.
I will also show you actual patient photos.

Before and after 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction
This is a patient who underwent 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction.
If you compare the before-and-after photos, you can clearly see that the 45-degree cheekbone has been reduced.
As you can see, 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction is not a surgery that only affects the side cheekbone. It reduces cheekbone volume by pushing the side cheekbone inward, and the 45-degree cheekbone can be sufficiently addressed through the shaving process.
How Is It Different from 3D Cheekbone Reduction Surgery?
3D cheekbone reduction surgery is a procedure that resects and removes part of the cheekbone, so it is more effective for people with significantly developed cheekbones.

Before and after 3D cheekbone reduction
For those whose 45-degree cheekbones are especially developed, or for those who want to reduce their cheekbones as much as possible regardless of anesthesia method or swelling, I would recommend 3D cheekbone reduction surgery. However, I do not think patients who can be sufficiently treated with 230-degree three-dimensional zygomatic reduction need to undergo 3D cheekbone reduction surgery unnecessarily.
At 입체성형외과, the patient’s bone condition is carefully analyzed through 3D CT scanning, and a precise diagnosis is made regarding which surgery is needed.
For a highly satisfying surgical result, it is important to accurately understand your own bone development status and choose the surgical method that is right for you.
Thank you.
