"The wound has healed, so why does the scar
look even more noticeable?"
It started as a small wound, but as time passed it became red,
and gradually rose up, becoming a keloid scar that stands out
even more. It not only causes stress in terms of appearance,
but can also come with itching or throbbing discomfort,
affecting quality of life. In particular, for people who are
prone to scarring, even minor irritation can easily lead to
keloids, making prevention and early treatment very important.
At Human Dermatology Seoul National University Branch,
we propose personalized treatment solutions for each patient
through a fundamental approach to keloid scars.
Keloids are more than just simple scars; over time, they can
thicken, become more intensely red, and even cause symptoms
such as pain or itching, making them a difficult-to-treat skin
disorder. In many cases, ordinary scar ointments or laser
treatments are not enough to achieve satisfactory improvement,
so consistent, customized treatment is needed.
At Human Dermatology Seoul National University Branch,
located at Exit 7 of Seoul National University Station, we are
improving both scar size and redness effectively through a
treatment that combines keloid injections and the V-beam
Perfecta (V-beam Perfecta) laser.

Keloid scar treatment
❓ What is a keloid?

Nakseongdae Dermatology keloid
✔ It is an abnormal proliferation of fibrous tissue in which the
wound area becomes even larger and grows thicker than the
surrounding skin.
✔ It is accompanied by redness, itching, and pain, and can also
cause psychological stress.
✔ It often occurs in areas that receive a lot of irritation, such as
behind the ears, the chest, and the shoulders.
💉 Keloid injection (steroid injection)
How does it work?
Keloid injections are usually administered by directly injecting
steroid ingredients such as triamcinolone (triamcinolone
acetonide) into the scar tissue. This injection helps improve
keloids through the following actions!
📌 Suppresses collagen production: Keloids form thick,
raised scars because excess collagen accumulates more than
normal. Steroids suppress this and help soften the tissue.
📌 Relieves inflammation: It eases inflammatory symptoms in the
keloid area, such as itching, stinging, and redness.
📌 Induces tissue contraction: It helps reduce swollen scar tissue
and make it flatter.
Treatment is usually repeated at 2- to 4-week intervals, and
depending on the size of the scar and how it progresses, more
than 3 to 10 sessions may be needed.
💡 V-beam Perfecta laser
(V-beam Perfecta)
– The key to vascular-based scar treatment
The V-beam Perfecta is a 595nm vascular laser that targets the
redness, blood vessel proliferation, and inflammation of keloids.
✅ Precise targeted treatment: This laser selectively responds
after extended blood vessels within the scar, allowing treatment
without damaging the surrounding skin tissue.
✅ Redness relief: After the procedure, erythema fades and the
scar borders appear less prominent.
✅ Recurrence suppression through blood flow blockage: By
reducing blood vessels, it also suppresses collagen supply and
lowers the possibility of regrowth.
✅ Skin protection system: It has a built-in cooling device
(Cryogen Spray Cooling), which reduces the risk of skin burns
and minimizes pain and bruising after the procedure.
It is usually performed at 1-month intervals for 3 to 5 sessions or
more, and the more pronounced the redness, the better the
effect.
🔁 Synergistic effect of combination treatment

| Category | Keloid injection | V-beam Perfecta | Effect when combined |
|---|
| Raised scar improvement | O | △ | ✅ Up to more than 70% reduction |
| Redness relief | △ | O | ✅ Up to more than 90% reduction |
| Recurrence rate | 30~50% | 40% | ✅ Reduced to 15~20% |
| Recovery time | Fast | Fast | ✅ Return to daily life immediately |
When these two treatments are combined, the greatest benefit is
that they can soften raised scars while also improving the red
color that makes them visually stand out.
In particular, they are highly effective for early keloids with a
high vascular component, and the synergy is strong because they
can also lower the recurrence rate.
Keloids do not simply end as "scars that last a long time." In
severe cases, many people experience pain, persistent
inflammation, or even discomfort in daily life from irritation
when clothing or accessories touch the area.
Therefore, scar treatment should be approached not only from a
cosmetic perspective, but also from the standpoint of treating a
"disease" to reduce functional discomfort. The timing of
treatment is also crucial: if active treatment is started in the
early stage while redness remains, faster and more satisfying
improvement can be expected!

Thorough post-procedure care to minimize recurrence
Keloid scars are a skin condition that can have a major impact
not only on appearance but also on quality of life and mental
well-being. At Human Dermatology Seoul National University
Branch, we combine keloid injections with the V-beam Perfecta
laser to improve both scar protrusion and redness at the same
time and provide a combined treatment solution that lowers the
recurrence rate.

📌 Treatment timing and prevention are important
It is most effective to start treatment when redness and pain are
present in the early stage of a keloid.
It is important to provide early care right after a wound occurs
so that the scar does not grow larger, and if a scar is suspected
after surgery or acne, consultation with a specialist is
recommended.
