Hello. This is Lucid Dental Clinic.
You may have made a dental appointment, but as the day of your visit approaches,
tension can build. Old unpleasant memories
come back, and you may find yourself thinking, "Should I just cancel again today?"

Conscious sedation for dental anxiety
At Lucid Dental Clinic, we introduce conscious sedation
to help ease the anxiety of patients like these.
This is a method that uses sedative medication
to help you receive treatment while your body and mind
are relaxed and at ease.
Unlike general anesthesia,
it does not make you fully fall asleep, but leaves you in a lightly conscious state,
allowing communication with the medical staff and focusing on reducing unnecessary tension and
fear.
Because the patient’s breathing and responses are maintained,
treatment can be received in a more stable environment,
which is also an advantage.

Is the medication used for conscious sedation
safe?
One of the things many people wonder about is
the safety of the medication.
In conscious sedation, a medication called "midazolam" is mainly used.
This drug is widely used even in university hospitals and general hospitals, and if administered at an appropriate dose with
monitoring, it is classified as a medication with a high level of safety.
At Lucid Dental Clinic, we thoroughly check the patient’s overall condition, medications they are taking,
and medical history in advance, then use personalized
sedation treatment, and we prioritize patient safety through monitoring before, during, and after
treatment.

Conscious sedation may be helpful
for these people.
-
People who feel severe tension just from hearing the sound of dental instruments
-
People who have a strong gag reflex during treatment (a reflex that causes nausea when a foreign object enters the mouth)
-
People who have difficulty enduring treatment for a long time due to physical tension
-
People whose past dental treatment experience remains as trauma and who feel afraid
-
People who want to receive multiple treatments at once but feel anxious first
-
People who have postponed treatment because of mental tension or fear
It may be especially suitable for treatments that require long periods of concentration,
such as implants, cavity treatment, and extractions.
If you have avoided or postponed treatment itself,
trying conscious sedation may be one way to reduce the mental burden.

What kinds of treatment can it be applied to?
Conscious sedation is not simply about
'reducing fear.'
It is also a method that increases both patient stability and the medical team’s focus on the procedure in situations where treatment has been postponed due to mental tension or where cooperation during treatment is difficult.
At Lucid Dental Clinic, we actively use this method for the following treatments.
▪ Implant procedures
Because these procedures must be carried out precisely over a long period,
it is important to reduce tension and receive them in a stable state.
▪ Cavity treatment and root canal treatment
If the treatment area is wide or multiple areas need treatment,
it is much easier to proceed in a sedated state.
▪ Extractions (especially wisdom tooth extractions)
In difficult extractions, such as when a tooth is deeply impacted in the bone,
it is used to lower tension and improve cooperation.
Please check these points before treatment.
▪ You may need to fast before the procedure.
Please follow the exact timing provided by the clinic.
▪ Medications you are currently taking, underlying conditions, sleep disorders, allergies,
and medical history must be shared with the medical staff in advance.
▪ If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, whether it can be applied must be decided only after
sufficient consultation with a doctor.
Precautions after the procedure
With conscious sedation, you do not return immediately to "daily mode"
after treatment ends.
Because the effects of the sedative may remain for some time,
it is important to avoid strenuous activity on the day of treatment and get plenty of rest.
▪ We recommend coming to the clinic with a guardian rather than driving or traveling on your own.
After treatment, judgment and reflexes may be somewhat reduced, so it is safer to postpone driving, precision work, and important payments or contracts for about a day.
▪ After the procedure, you will rest at the clinic for a certain period before leaving.
In general, we observe your condition for about 30 minutes to 1 hour,
and 안내드려요.
once your condition is stable, we guide you to go home.
▪ After returning home, prioritize a light meal and fluid intake,
and if you have been prescribed medication, take it at the specified
time and dosage.
▪ For about a day, you may continue to feel a little heavy or sleepy.
Please do not worry too much,
and it is fine to think of it as a day to rest well.
Dental treatment you postponed because you were scared, now a little more comfortably
Conscious sedation is not a method that makes treatment itself "easy."
However, by reducing mental burden and easing physical tension, it plays a role like a "bridge" that helps patients
focus more on treatment.
At Lucid Dental Clinic, through sufficient consultation and precise diagnosis,
we create treatment plans in a way that suits each patient’s condition.
Please do not suffer alone, and it is okay to let go of some of your worries and come in.
In a comfortable treatment environment, we will work with you toward healthy oral recovery.
