1. Gum recession is an important oral health issue closely related to tooth health.

The main causes of gum recession can arise from several factors acting together.

Most commonly, it occurs when gum disease, that is, periodontitis, damages and destroys the gum tissue.

In addition, it can also happen when poor brushing habits, such as brushing too hard, continue over time, when one regularly enjoys hard and chewy foods,

or even after orthodontic treatment,

and malocclusion, the habit of grinding teeth at night,

and even genetic factors can all contribute to gum recession.

First, we used digital dentistry technology and a 3D precision diagnostic system to identify the exact cause and determine the most appropriate gum recession treatment plan for the patient.

Using a 3D intraoral scanner and CT imaging, we were able to precisely analyze even the subtle details that are difficult to confirm with the naked eye, such as gum tissue thickness, the degree of root exposure, and the condition of the alveolar bone.

Then, based on the data obtained, we used a 3D smile preview system to predict in advance the changes in the gum line and tooth shape after the laminate and pink porcelain procedures, and communicated thoroughly with the patient.

In this patient’s case, the gum recession had progressed severely, and shape-related issues were also present, making it difficult to achieve a satisfying aesthetic result with gum grafting alone.

So I suggested a combined gum recession treatment that could improve both the shape of the teeth and the gum line by combining laminate and pink porcelain.

First, laminate treatment was performed to improve the shape, size, and color and to make the overall arrangement more harmonious.

Strictly adhering to the principle of minimal reduction of natural teeth, we gently covered the exposed root areas naturally and carefully designed the overall length, shape, and color so that they would blend in as harmoniously as possible with the surrounding teeth.

This improved the aesthetics of the alignment and provided the basic foundation for perfect harmony with the gum line.

After the laminates were attached,

pink porcelain was applied to fill the severely recessed gum areas between the teeth, especially the spaces that appeared as black triangles.

Pink porcelain is a porcelain material similar in color to gums and harmless to the human body,

and it helps naturally restore the volume of receded gums and cover exposed roots, easing not only the issue of teeth looking too long but also sensitivity.
