Root canal treatment
Crown after cavity treatment
What is a crown?
As tooth decay has progressed to a certain extent,
if you have had root canal treatment,
you may have been told by your dentist that you need a crown.
CROWN means a royal crown,
and the crown referred to in dentistry
is a restoration that covers the upper part of a tooth like a crown.
If you thought that a filling alone, rather than a restoration placed after root canal treatment,
would be enough
and that there would be no problem with chewing,
please check why a crown is needed.
Why a cavity crown is needed

If you were told that you needed a crown while treating a cavity,
it means that the treatment has progressed to the point of root canal treatment,
and that a significant amount of natural tooth structure has been removed.
No matter how hard wood is,
if it is hollow inside,
it can collapse from a small impact;
likewise, if a tooth is left hollow with only the walls remaining,
it can break as shocks build up from everyday chewing.
A tooth that breaks that way
loses its function as a natural tooth,
and eventually reaches a point where it must be extracted,
so we hope you can preserve your natural tooth through cavity crown treatment.
Types of cavity crowns

There are several types of cavity crown treatment.
Among them, the three representative types are
PFM, zirconia, and gold.
PFM has a tooth-colored porcelain exterior
and a dark, hard metal interior,
allowing you to get strong durability at a lower price.
Because the dark color of the metal may show through,
it is mainly used for teeth such as molars.
Zirconia is made from a new material used to make artificial diamonds,
so it is expensive,
but it offers strong durability and aesthetics.
Because there is a risk of damage,
it is mainly used for front teeth such as the anterior teeth.
Gold is made of gold, so it is expensive,
but it boasts the strongest durability and there is little risk of breakage,
so it is mainly used for molars where aesthetics are not important.
Cavity crown treatment period

As tooth decay has progressed to a certain extent
and root canal treatment is needed,
the treatment period for cavity crown treatment is
root canal treatment at 1- to 2-week intervals
2 to 4 visits
and 1 to 2 weeks for taking impressions and fabricating the restoration,
so it usually takes about one month to one and a half months.
