Hello.
This is Wi Youngjin from Beauty's Doctors.
When considering a lifting procedure,
there is one device that is compared most often.
That is Ultherapy and
Shrink.
Both devices are ultrasonic lifting devices and
are representative procedures that have been used for a long time.
However, if you look at actual reviews,
there are quite a few posts saying,
“Ultherapy and Shrink have no effect.”
So, is it really
an issue with the device itself?
To give the conclusion first,
in most cases it is not a problem with the device,
but arises from differences in treatment conditions.
What many people especially overlook is
shot count.
For example, if you think about the standard of 100 Shrink shots
once,
it becomes natural to understand
why these kinds of reviews appear.
From here, I’ll explain
one by one,
step by step.

- Why do reviews saying “Ultherapy and Shrink have no effect” appear?
The reasons for low satisfaction after a lifting procedure
usually start from three things.
① When the shot count is not sufficient
Ultherapy and Shrink are
procedures that stimulate the deeper layers of the skin by using
high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) energy.
Ultrasound energy is
transmitted to the dermis and SMAS layer,
forming tiny thermal coagulation points,
and this process induces collagen regeneration.
However, if this energy
is not sufficiently accumulated,
it is difficult to feel
noticeable changes.
In particular, a treatment amount of around 100 shots
is often insufficient for the skin to clearly feel
significant changes.
So immediately after the procedure,
reviews such as
“I don’t see much change.”
“It seems ineffective.”
appear.
② When the expected direction of effect is different
Many people think of lifting procedures
as treatments that reduce fat or pull the face up.
However, Ultherapy and Shrink are
not procedures that remove fat,
but procedures that restore the skin’s internal elasticity structure.
In other words, the result is
not a dramatic immediate change,
but rather a characteristic that appears gradually
as time passes.
In general,
improvement in elasticity appears gradually
between 1 and 3 months.
If you expected a noticeable lift immediately after the procedure,
there is a high possibility that you would judge it as
“no effect”
before you properly feel the improvement.
③ Differences in procedure method and skill
Even with the same device and the same shot count,
results can vary greatly depending on
where and how the energy is delivered.
In particular, Ultherapy is
a device with strong output,
so selecting the depth and distributing the energy
is very important.
Shrink also requires not simply firing shots,
but designing a lifting vector
that matches the structure of the face.
If these parts are not properly considered,
rather than a problem with the device,
the effect may feel insufficient
due to the procedure method.
In the end,
reviews saying “Shrink has no effect”
are often caused when these three things do not align:
✔ Insufficient shot count
✔ Difference in expected effect
✔ Difference in procedure method
- Why should you start by considering 100 shots?
In lifting procedures,
shot count is not just a number.
It means how much energy
was delivered into the skin.
① The difference between 100 shots and 300 shots
Ultherapy and Shrink use
HIFU energy to create
thermal coagulation points
inside the skin.
These thermal coagulation points
become the starting point that triggers
skin regeneration responses.
The more thermal coagulation points there are,
the greater the stimulation the skin receives,
and the more active the collagen regeneration response becomes.
So
the difference between 100 shots and 300 shots is not simply a threefold difference,
but a difference in the regeneration response itself
that occurs within the skin.
② Collagen regeneration depends on cumulative stimulation
Collagen does not suddenly increase a lot
from one stimulation.
As appropriate stimulation is repeated
and the process of damage and recovery continues,
regeneration is gradually promoted.
If the shot count is low,
there are not enough thermal coagulation points,
so this process is difficult to occur sufficiently.
On the other hand,
the higher the shot count,
the more active collagen reorganization and regeneration become,
and the faster the recovery of skin elasticity can appear.
③ The limitations of 100 shots
Around 100 shots
can be a meaningful level
for mild elasticity care or for people experiencing a lifting procedure for the first time.
However,
if you expect changes such as
✔ sagging cheek fat
✔ loss of jawline elasticity
✔ midface lifting
then
100 shots alone
is likely to be insufficient.
In particular, as people age,
the collagen itself in the skin decreases,
so providing sufficient stimulation
becomes even more important.
- Ultherapy and Shrink have the same principle,
but why are the results different?
Both devices are
HIFU ultrasound lifting devices.
However,
even with the same shot count,
the results you feel can be different.
① Difference in energy intensity
Ultherapy has
stronger energy per shot and
relatively more accurate ultrasound delivery depth.
So even with a relatively small number of shots,
the lifting effect tends to appear
more quickly.
However,
because the output is strong,
if the pain is severe
or the practitioner lacks skill,
the possibility of bruising or pain can also increase.

On the other hand,
Shrink has relatively gentler output
and less pain.
It can be considered a device suitable for those who want a quick return to daily life
and a natural change.
However,
because the output is gentler,
there are many cases where sufficient shot count and repeated procedures
are needed.
② Summary of device characteristics
Ultherapy
✔ High output
✔ Deep lifting
✔ Relatively immediate effect
Shrink
✔ Less pain
✔ Natural improvement
✔ Suitable for repeated procedures
Therefore,
even with the same 300 shots,
Ultherapy may show focused lifting,
while Shrink may show gradual improvement in elasticity.
- Summary – Understanding shot count changes the result
The reason reviews saying
“it has no effect”
appear for Ultherapy and Shrink is
mostly not a problem with the device itself,
but arises from differences in treatment conditions.
In particular,
if these three things do not align:
✔ Shot count
✔ Skin condition
✔ Treatment plan
it may be difficult to achieve
the result you expected.
Around 100 shots
can be meaningful for mild elasticity care,
but
if you want a noticeable lifting change,
it is better to consider
sufficient energy of 300 shots or more.

In the end, what matters is
choosing the right device for your skin condition
and setting an appropriate shot count.
If you deliver enough energy from the beginning
and observe the changes for about 1 to 3 months,
while managing it periodically,
the chance of feeling disappointed with
“Shrink has no effect”
can be greatly reduced.
I hope today’s explanation
was helpful, even a little,
for those considering a lifting procedure.
Thank you for reading this long post.
