Hello.

There are many people who have received laminate treatment because of front-tooth cavities, trauma, or concerns about their teeth.

Even laminates that were initially satisfying are not permanent, so
as time passes, many people consider retreatment due to color changes, exposure of the boundary area between the gums and teeth, detachment, fracture, or
design-related dissatisfaction.
Because the front teeth are a highly visible area,
even small changes can affect confidence and appearance.
Today, we prepared a treatment case of a patient who visited Bangbang Intersection Dental Clinic and Gangnam Station White Dream Dental Clinic with these concerns.

The existing laminate color is too dark, and the tooth lengths are not uniform.
I want white, even teeth—can I get retreatment?
This was the reason for the visit.
First, let’s look at the condition of the teeth.
This is the patient’s initial intraoral photo.
The four teeth from #12 to #22 in the front have already been treated with laminates.

The large front teeth are significantly longer than the adjacent lateral incisors.
Because of this, every time the patient looked at their teeth,
they said that even though the front teeth did not protrude, they looked like rabbit front teeth.
Biologically, our teeth are naturally formed so that the central incisors (the large front teeth)
are slightly longer than the lateral incisors (the smaller front teeth).
This difference in length is what allows the front tooth line to form a gentle curve when smiling,
creating a natural and harmonious impression.
If the difference becomes excessively large, however,
the harmony of the smile line is disrupted, and the front teeth can appear too prominent.

In addition, the lateral incisor area that had received laminate treatment
showed the gingival margin becoming dark due to gum recession,
creating the impression that the prosthesis was separate from the rest.
It was decided to improve all of these issues through laminate retreatment this time,
and to perform gum contouring as well so that the boundary between the teeth and gums could also form a gentle curve.

To check the patient’s current dental condition, the prosthesis was removed, and
the front tooth area had undergone a great deal of tooth reduction during the first laminate treatment,
so there was very little remaining tooth structure.
There was also decay present,
so the two central incisors, which lacked sufficient remaining tooth tissue, were decided to be treated with crowns, and the lateral incisors plus the canine area that was additionally planned for treatment were
decided to be treated with laminates.
The photo below shows the teeth after reduction.
The front teeth area chosen for crowns appears to have a large amount of tooth reduction,
but the teeth selected for laminate treatment next to them
show that the tooth reduction was not extensive.

A crown is a prosthesis that covers the entire tooth,
so tooth reduction is performed all the way around 360 degrees.
That is why the abutment tooth must be smaller than it would be for a laminate.
It would be difficult to continue daily life in this condition,
so on the day of the visit, impressions were taken for the final prosthesis fabrication,
and temporary teeth were placed right away.
Laminates can be fabricated on the same day, but
crowns require about 7 days for fabrication.
So the patient wore temporary teeth for about 7 days,
and after discussing it with the patient, it was decided to place the laminates on the same day the crowns were completed.

The overall smile line should look refreshed. ^^
We finished treatment by improving the concerns mentioned earlier.

The proportions of the teeth that had looked large like rabbit front teeth because the lateral incisors were short were also readjusted through gum contouring,
and the dark-looking tooth color was improved by fabricating the prostheses in the brightest shade.
Some people may wonder, "Won't it look unnatural if the color is too different from the surrounding teeth?"
But bright-colored laminates do not simply make teeth look white;
They make the face look brighter and healthier,
and increase confidence when speaking.

Perhaps for that reason, these days more and more people want "teeth that are a little noticeable, but brighter and whiter."
Today, we introduced a laminate retreatment case from Bangbang Intersection Dental Clinic and Gangnam Station White Dream Dental Clinic.
Laminates are designed a little differently depending on whether the patient is male or female, including the prosthetic design and the gingival margin.
For women,
we emphasize gentle curves without making the length difference too large
so they can look natural and elegant,
and for men,
we emphasize the difference in tooth length a little more to create a strong, clear impression.

In this way, laminates are not simply a treatment that makes teeth white,
but an important treatment that considers gender, facial shape, age, and even the image the patient wants,
to complete a confident smile and impression.
Thank you for reading this long post today.
