Looking at the patient’s initial consultation photos,

the teeth are generally short and spaced apart,

In particular, tooth #12 is a smaller peg-shaped tooth than the surrounding teeth, so you can see that the overall balance of the teeth is disrupted.

I’m worried because my smile looks cramped.

I want to have a refreshing smile line.

To achieve the smile line the patient wants,

we first need to even out the height of the gum line through gingival contouring,

and then naturally complement the color and shape of the teeth with laminate veneers.

First, let’s take a look at gingival contouring.

Gingival contouring Gingival contouring is not simply a gum resection for cosmetic purposes,

but a process that idealizes the ratio between the teeth and gums,

and creates an environment in which prosthetic restorations can sit harmoniously.

After designing the gum line,

unnecessary attached gingiva is delicately removed using a laser,

and this attached gingiva plays a role in supporting the teeth and protecting them from external irritation.

Therefore, even if the teeth are short, they are not simply cut away extensively;

the resection range must be adjusted carefully by considering the width and thickness of the attached gingiva.

After gingival contouring, you can see that the teeth look longer

and the gum line has been organized into a more balanced shape.

Because it is performed using a laser rather than a blade, it has the advantage of faster recovery. ^^

Also, immediately after the procedure, the marginal area of the gums remains smooth and maintains a healthy tone.

Now that we have created a gum shape that can nicely accommodate the prosthetics,

it is time to make attractive prosthetics that match this line.

With laser-based gingival contouring,

the gum line is stably formed immediately after the procedure,

so the process of prosthetic design → fabrication → placement can be completed on the same day. ^^

When receiving same-day laminate veneer treatment,

the gingival contouring and design process are carried out in the morning,

and due to slight bleeding from laser contouring, stabilization of the gum line, and the time needed to fabricate the prosthetics,

the prosthetics are fabricated and placed in the afternoon.

When making laminate veneers,

the length and width proportions of the teeth are adjusted to match the organized gum line,

and the shade is carefully matched so that the color blends naturally with the adjacent teeth.

And all of this is decided together with the patient while looking in the mirror.^^

Because the gingival contouring area has not yet fully healed,

the gum margin may appear red or slightly raised, which can make the gums look a bit rough.

This is a temporary phenomenon that appears during the healing process,

and after about 7 days, the gum tissue stabilizes and the color and contours become naturally refined,

so there is no need to worry too much.^^
