[Shared] Why I Opened U&I Clinic Mokdong <Chief Director’s Medical Philosophy>

Hello.

I am Kim Jin-hyun, Chief Director of U&I Clinic Mokdong.

When I meet many patients, they often talk not only about skin-related concerns but also about their daily lives.

When I communicate with such patients, I find myself forgetting the tiredness of everyday life and gaining new energy before I know it.

But as patients shared stories about themselves, I realized that I had never properly introduced myself.

So today, through this post,

I’d like to honestly share with you why I became a doctor,

and with what mindset I decided to open U&I Clinic Mokdong.

This is the first time I’m seriously sharing my values and thoughts like this, so the writing may feel a bit awkward..

I ask for your kind understanding, and I will try to put my true feelings into words as fully as possible :)

Why I Became a Doctor

First, I’d like to tell you honestly why I became a doctor.

Since I was young, I wanted to do work that helped people and brought them joy and happiness as a result.

I know it sounds like a very common, predictable statement anyone could make..

But I truly chose the path of medicine with that mindset, and that continues to this day.

Especially after I started practicing dermatology, the procedures I perform lift my patients’ moods,

and whenever I see patients happy because of me, I feel genuinely proud and happy inside :)

It may sound like a cliché, but this is truly how I feel.

Even now, whenever I see patients’ expressions brighten after a procedure,

whenever patients tell me they look prettier thanks to the treatment before their wedding,

whenever they tell me they no longer feel timid because of their skin,

I live with a sense of pride and happiness in my profession as a doctor :)

Skin Problems I Had as a Child

When I was young, I had very sensitive skin that would break out with acne or other skin issues with even the slightest change in environment.

My skin was so extremely sensitive that even using a towel that had touched dust could cause problems on my face.

Based on those experiences, I became deeply interested in stubborn acne and sensitive skin.

I studied very hard to find the cause and solutions for these issues :)

Because I’ve had those experiences,

I developed the habit of carefully checking the ingredients of every cosmetic product, whether for home use or for use in our clinic, before choosing it.

Some people might find it strange to think that I would scrutinize the ingredients so much when choosing even one cosmetic product..

But for someone like me, who had extremely sensitive skin, skin problems would arise more easily than for others unless I checked everything carefully one by one,

and unless I studied skin in depth like this, my skin would not improve as easily as other people’s.

However, I now believe that these experiences have actually been helpful to me.

Because I had sensitive skin and skin that easily developed problems, I was able to immerse myself deeply in studying skin,

and I believe that the knowledge and experience I’ve accumulated now allow me to provide more attentive care and treatment to you :)

My Medical Philosophy and Values

To me, the word “values” means,

they should be able to represent a person’s philosophy with just one word or one sentence.

If I were to describe my own “values,” that is, my “medical philosophy,” in one word to you..

it would be

" Happiness "

Happiness? Isn’t that too predictable again?..

Some of you may be thinking that..

But my medical philosophy is not simply about the result of treatment; it is about helping every patient who visits the clinic feel happiness while receiving care.

That is because skin problems are not just external issues,

but also internal issues that can place a significant psychological burden on patients.

So I think only about which procedure will help each patient feel the greatest happiness, and I suggest treatment methods with that in mind.

There may be many ways to solve a concern,

but what matters is focusing on whether the process can bring joy and happiness to the patient.

So that my treatment can become a process of delivering happiness to patients,

I will always keep my初心 and continue meeting you all :)

Today, I shared with you the reason I became a doctor—something I have never told others—and also my values.

I believe dermatology is not just about simple treatment, but a precious space that helps people regain confidence and live better lives.

I will treat each and every one of you with sincerity and responsibility.
