Mokdong filler: naturally adding volume
The key to filling volume
Mokdong filler

Hello.
I am Kim Jin-hyeon, Chief Director of the Mokdong branch of You&I Clinic.
“I want to add volume,
but I want it to look natural.”
Fillers are mainly used to fill in sunken areas or correct facial contours.
Many people hesitate because the results can look unnatural, or because overly full volume feels burdensome.
If you understand the characteristics and principles of fillers, it can help you achieve a more satisfying and natural result.
Today, I’ll personally share natural treatment tips for those who want fillers but are hesitating. :)

Mechanism of action of fillers
Fillers commonly use an ingredient called hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is actually one of the substances naturally present in our bodies.
It is found in the dermis and plays a role in attracting and retaining moisture.
Fillers are products made by formulating synthetically synthesized hyaluronic acid into an injectable form,
and when injected into tissue, they help create volume and retain moisture, contributing to a natural sense of elasticity and fullness.
Hyaluronic acid comes in various types depending on molecular weight, viscosity, elasticity, and more, so it is important to choose a filler with the right viscosity and firmness for each area.

For example, a relatively softer filler may be suitable for areas that need improvement in glabellar lines or fine superficial wrinkles,
while a firmer filler may be used in areas like the nose or chin that require structural support.
Because these detailed choices greatly affect the outcome of filler treatment, it is a good idea to carefully check the characteristics of the product used and whether it is genuine when considering treatment.

The key to natural treatment

So, what should be especially important in order to achieve natural results?
For a natural result, above all, it is important to properly plan “where and how much to inject.”
Because each person’s facial structure, fat distribution, and elasticity are different, you should have 충분한 consultation with the medical staff before treatment and carefully decide the treatment area and appropriate amount that you need.

Also, “molding” is really important during filler treatment.
After filler is injected into the tissue through a syringe, the medical staff gently shapes it using their fingers or special tools; this process is called “molding.”
In other words, it refers to the process of setting the injected filler into the correct shape and helping it blend naturally with the surrounding tissue.
Because hyaluronic acid filler is a flexible gel-type substance, its shape can be adjusted to some extent immediately after injection.
At this time, molding helps distribute the filler evenly in the desired location, preventing a lumpy or asymmetric shape.
However, if molding is done too aggressively or pressed in the wrong direction, the filler may shift to an unintended area, or the treated area may spread out and lose definition.
That is why the touch of a medical professional with extensive filler experience is important,
and continuous communication during the procedure so the optimal shape can be created is key to achieving natural results.

The depth of injection is also very important.
The injection depth of filler must vary by facial area to achieve the desired result and ensure safety.
For example, in shallow wrinkle areas such as under-eye hollows, shallow injection into the dermis or subcutaneous layer may be used,
while areas that need structural support, such as the nose or chin, may require injection near the periosteum or into a deeper layer.
Properly understanding treatment by layer helps prevent filler from protruding unnaturally through the skin and can also improve long-term durability.

So what if you went to all this effort for treatment, but you still don’t like the result?
Fortunately, in the case of hyaluronic acid filler, the injected filler can be quickly broken down by injecting an enzyme called “hyaluronidase.”
In general, noticeable changes appear quickly within about two days after injection, which is very helpful for correcting unnatural volume or filler that has been over-injected.
But are there any side effects?
Although very rare, an allergic reaction to hyaluronidase may occur.
Therefore, it is essential to carefully share your allergy history with the medical staff before treatment.
Also, some of the natural hyaluronic acid around the treatment area may be broken down as well, so caution is needed.
For that reason, only the necessary amount should be injected precisely, and care should be taken to prevent unnecessary volume loss caused by excessive treatment.

“Can I get treated again immediately after dissolving it?”
In principle, it is recommended to repeat treatment after the inflammatory response or swelling has subsided.
This is because the area may temporarily lose volume or the surrounding tissue may become sensitive.
Therefore, in many cases, patients are advised to wait about 1–2 weeks so that the tissue can stabilize before receiving filler treatment again.
If you rush into retreatment too quickly, residual enzyme may affect the newly injected filler, so please consult with the medical staff to determine the appropriate timing.

Although filler treatment may seem relatively simple, a “natural” result can only be achieved when anatomical understanding of the face, experience, and delicate molding skills immediately after treatment are all supported in a comprehensive way.
In particular, with hyaluronic acid filler, it is possible to respond to unexpected situations through a dissolving injection,
but it is necessary to avoid relying on this and injecting an excessive amount all at once.
If you thoroughly discuss your facial structure, skin condition, and the amount of volume needed with the medical staff, and carefully learn the management methods before and after treatment,
you can create a more natural and healthy image through filler.
I hope this article was a small help to those of you considering filler treatment.^^
