Mokdong Thermage: Is It Effective Enough to Justify the High Price?
Let’s Look at the Research
Hello.
I’m Kim Jin-hyeon,
Chief Director at You&I Clinic Mokdong Branch.

“Why is Thermage so expensive?”
“Will it really make a difference after just one treatment?”
If you searched for Mokdong Thermage and clicked into this post,
these are probably the kinds of thoughts you have in mind.
Since this is a procedure where price is hard to ignore,
it’s understandable that you would want to confirm whether it actually works
rather than rely on vague expectations.
So today, we’ll set aside comments like
“People say it’s good” or
“Celebrities get it,”
for a moment,
and take a calm look at Thermage’s effects based on medical papers.
If you read just a little further, you’ll be able to judge for yourself
why Mokdong Thermage is viewed this way,
and whether it’s the right choice for you.

- What is Thermage?
Thermage is a noninvasive
radiofrequency (RF)
energy-based procedure.
Simply put, it delivers heat energy deep into the skin
without cutting the surface or inserting needles.
This heat stimulation acts on the dermis and fibrous
connective tissue, instantly contracting existing collagen,
and then inducing new collagen production
over the following months.

So rather than lifting wrinkles upward,
Thermage is closer to a procedure that restores
the overall firmness and density of the skin.
It is also characterized by being non-surgical and non-incisional,
with almost no downtime,
but it is important to understand that the effects appear gradually.
- Thermage effects confirmed by research,
are they really proven?
“Isn’t Thermage just expensive,
and in the end, doesn’t it all depend on the individual?”
To answer that question,
the paper we referred to is
Thermage: Noninvasive Radiofrequency for Rejuvenation
(S. A. Sukal et al., 2008)
This study clinically evaluated
how Thermage using monopolar radiofrequency
affects skin elasticity and wrinkle improvement.
Looking at the results,
mild to moderate skin tightening
was observed in most patients,
that is, a mild to moderate improvement
in firmness.
Fig. 1: A single Thermacool TC treatment was performed using a 1 cm² tip
with 3 passes at 106 mJ energy;
compared with before treatment, mid- and lower-face sagging improved significantly,
and this improvement persisted through at least 6 months of follow-up.
In particular, the effect of reducing sagging in the midface and lower face
was relatively clear,
and the thermal stimulation from radiofrequency
causes an immediate contraction of existing collagen
followed by the process of collagen remodeling
over several months.
Another point worth noting is safety.
No serious adverse events were reported,
and only mild reactions such as temporary redness or warmth were observed.
The paper emphasizes that visible improvement in firmness is possible
without damaging the skin surface.
- Can we trust the research results as they are?
If you look at the paper, it is clear that Thermage
has scientific efficacy.
However, there is one point we should keep in mind here.
The statement “it works” does not mean
“it is dramatic for everyone.”
The effect described in the paper is different in nature from surgical lifting,
which sharply raises the facial line,
or from ultrasound lifting, which creates an immediate change in contour.

Thermage should be understood as a procedure that,
while avoiding skin damage,
reorganizes the collagen structure to improve skin texture,
firmness, and density overall.
So if your overall skin elasticity has declined,
fine lines and sagging are gradually progressing,
and you want a natural-looking change,
it can be a choice that aligns relatively well with the research findings.

On the other hand, if sagging has already progressed significantly,
Thermage alone may fall short of expectations.
Another thing is that the paper did not cover
who performs the procedure or exactly how it is performed.
In actual clinical practice, results can vary depending on differences in strategy
based on energy settings, shot distribution, and skin thickness,
so I would like to point that out clearly.
So far, for those considering Mokdong Thermage,
I’ve organized what Thermage is and what its effects,
confirmed by research, are.
Thermage is not just a vaguely expensive procedure;
it is a treatment whose firmness-improving effects
have been confirmed on the basis of medical evidence.
What matters, however, is first determining whether your skin condition
and the direction of change you are expecting
match this procedure.
If you make your choice with enough information,
you can reduce both unnecessary disappointment and regret.
I hope this post was even a little helpful in your decision.
Thank you for reading to the end.
