Mokdong warts
Hello.
I’m Kim Jin-hyeon, Chief Director of U&I Clinic Mokdong Branch.

“I’m curious why warts keep appearing.”
When something hard like a callus appears on the hands or soles of the feet, people often assume it is a corn and leave it alone.
However, if it gets larger over time or increases in number around the area, there is a high chance that it is a wart, which is a viral condition.
Warts are highly contagious, so if they are not properly addressed early, they can spread not only to nearby skin but also to other people.
Today, I will explain the characteristics of warts and effective management methods step by step.

Why do they keep spreading to nearby areas?
Because warts are a contagious skin condition caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), early response is recommended.

This virus can enter through tiny, barely visible skin damage and has the tendency to spread quickly to surrounding areas.
Some people may leave it alone, thinking it will improve naturally over time, but you should be aware that the lesion may instead grow larger or pose a risk of spreading to family members.
As the virus becomes more active, the area that needs to be managed later becomes wider.
Therefore, it is wise to carefully check the condition before it spreads and make a management plan at the right time.

How can they be improved?
Common methods for managing warts include cryotherapy and CO2 laser treatment.
Cryotherapy uses subzero liquid nitrogen to freeze the lesion and remove the tissue.

During recovery after the procedure, it helps promote gradual improvement by inducing an immune response.
It is usually performed several times at 2- to 3-week intervals, and blisters may appear temporarily during this process, but this should be understood as one of the natural recovery phenomena.
On the other hand, CO2 laser treatment uses direct thermal energy on the lesion area to remove the tissue.
It has the advantage of a relatively short procedure time and allows you to feel the changes more quickly.

However, the appropriate method may vary depending on the location and depth of the lesion, and you should keep in mind that excessive treatment can actually increase skin irritation.
That is why it is important to first consult with an experienced medical professional and establish a plan that suits your current condition.

How should you care for them after treatment?
Post-treatment care is as important as the procedure itself in determining how satisfied you are with the results.

This is because, due to the nature of viral conditions, even if the visible lesion disappears, it can reappear due to dormant virus.
Keeping the treated area clean is basic, and when a scab forms, patience is needed so that you do not forcibly remove it and instead wait until it naturally falls off.
In daily life, you should also make a habit of thoroughly separating and using personal items such as towels and nail clippers.

After using shared spaces, carefully washing and drying yourself is helpful.
If you feel that something is appearing again around the treated area, do not leave it alone; getting it checked immediately is the way to reduce the overall number of treatments needed.
It is important to acknowledge that healing speed differs from person to person and to consistently monitor the progress.
today, I shared information that would be helpful for those who are worried about warts.

Warts are highly contagious, so early action is key, but you should keep in mind that recovery speed may vary depending on an individual’s immune status and the depth of the lesion.
Because skin condition and lesion depth may differ, rather than handling it aggressively, please go through a careful diagnostic process and decide on the method that is suitable for your own skin.
