First, understanding the name “Fraxel” makes it easier to understand the treatment principle.
Rather than applying strong stimulation to the entire skin surface at once, Fraxel is a fractional treatment that delivers laser energy to the skin by dividing it into multiple microscopic areas.
In other words, it leaves some healthy skin intact while creating microscopic heat stimulation in areas requiring treatment, thereby encouraging the skin’s natural recovery process.

In particular, for people with indented acne scars, the scars themselves represent structural changes in the skin.
Because of this, it can be difficult to achieve the desired changes by treating only the skin’s surface.
In such cases, a treatment such as Fraxel, which creates intentional microscopic stimulation in the skin and induces a regenerative response, may be one option.

When microscopic stimulation is created in the skin, new tissue forms during the recovery process, which can help improve various skin concerns, including acne scars, enlarged pores, skin texture, and hyperpigmentation.

However, even with the same Fotona Fraxel treatment, the plan should differ depending on each patient’s primary concern.
For example, there is no need to use the same treatment intensity for someone with deep acne scars and someone whose main concern is simply enlarged pores.
Also, scars may be wide and shallow or narrow and deep, so repeating Fraxel alone is not always sufficient.
Depending on the skin’s condition, other scar treatments or skin-regeneration procedures may also need to be considered.

It is difficult to resolve these concerns with just one treatment. For Fotona Fraxel, approximately 3 to 5 sessions are generally recommended at intervals of about 4 weeks.
However, the same number of sessions does not apply to everyone.
This is because the required number of treatments and intervals vary depending on the depth of acne scars, the degree of pore enlargement, and the thickness and sensitivity of the skin.
In particular, if your skin reddens easily or is sensitive to stimulation, it is important to monitor the skin’s response during treatment rather than starting with a high intensity from the beginning.

Fractional Erbium-YAG Laser and Platelet-Rich Plasma as Single or Combined Treatment for Atrophic Acne Scars: A Randomized Clinical Trial
In a study published in an international academic journal, patients with acne scars were treated with an erbium:YAG laser using a Fotona device at 4-week intervals, for a total of 6 sessions, and then evaluated.
The scar grades, which had been moderate or higher before treatment, improved significantly after treatment.
The treating physicians’ assessments also reported that approximately half of the patients (48%) showed “marked improvement.”

won’t it immediately become difficult to carry on with daily activities?”
Many people are also concerned about this.
The reactions observed during recovery in the research data are also worth noting.
After treatment, erythema (redness) remained at the “none to mild” level in most patients, and moderate or more severe erythema was not observed.
Temporary post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) was observed in approximately 8% of patients, but it did not lead to serious adverse effects.

Fotona Fraxel can be used in a way that relatively reduces the burden of recovery.
However, because it is a procedure that actually applies laser stimulation to the skin, temporary redness, swelling, a burning sensation, or rough-feeling skin may occur.
The severity and duration may vary depending on skin type and treatment intensity.

Therefore, if you have an important event coming up, it is better to plan the treatment with some time to spare rather than scheduling it immediately beforehand.
After treatment, the skin may become more sensitive than usual, so avoid strong scrubs or peeling products for a while.
Careful moisturizing and sun protection may support a faster recovery. ^^
