Today’s blog post will be about how I received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award while serving in the military.

The mobile oral health clinic bus team at Gimcheon City Public Health Center

I was thankfully able to serve as a public health doctor in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk.

For three years, I traveled around medically underserved areas in Gimcheon City

and provided mobile treatment by bus.

The staff and doctors I worked with

always treated me very well and looked at me kindly,

so Gimcheon is always a place with many good memories for me.

Some of the senior centers where we provided mobile treatment / the bus driver at the time (truly the best!)

I mainly visited village community centers, senior centers, and elementary schools

located in medically underserved areas,

where I provided oral examinations and dental treatment inside the bus.

Every Monday in particular was the day we visited the welfare center for people with disabilities,

where I helped with oral examinations and treatment for people who were physically unwell.

Then, one day

I never thought I’d end up in the newspaper in my life?

Even as I’m writing this blog now, the memory of being so surprised and excited when I heard that we had won the Minister of Health and Welfare Award comes back vividly, haha.

Because of this achievement, Gimcheon City also gave us a commendation, so thankfully I got to meet the mayor of Gimcheon again.
