Hello :)
Because implant treatment is not permanent,
regular checkups are necessary.
Otherwise, at some point,
problems such as the prosthesis becoming loose or coming out
may appear without warning.
At Geojeo Station Dental Clinic, we also often see patients
who come in looking surprised and saying that their implant
suddenly came out.

Many people think that the implant fixture itself,
which is embedded in the bone, has come out,
but in reality, the cause is often a problem with part of the prosthetic structure.
An implant is not a single solid piece,
but a structure made up of multiple connected components.
Just as even a simple building has a foundation, pillars, and a roof,
an implant is also made up of components,
each with its own role.

To briefly explain the structure at Geojeo Station Dental Clinic,
the part inserted into the bone
is called the fixture,
and this is the foundation of the implant.
The intermediate post placed on top of it
is called the abutment,
and what connects the two
is the prosthetic screw.

Therefore, when the implant area comes out
or becomes loose,
it is important to first understand this structure accurately
and identify which part has a problem.

If the prosthetic screw connecting the fixture and abutment
breaks,
the upper implant structure will become loose and come out.
If this condition continues,
it can lead to a state of excessive bite, where the occlusion becomes higher than normal,
which can cause bigger problems such as wear or fracture.
If it is simply a case of the screw loosening,
it may be possible to resolve it just by tightening it again,
but as shown at Geojeo Station Dental Clinic,
when the prosthesis breaks, replacement is necessary.

You might simply think,
"Can't you just take out the broken screw piece?"
but if the broken screw fragment is firmly fixed inside the fixture,
things become complicated.
In such cases, it can even be difficult to remove,
which is why implant reoperation may sometimes be recommended.
However, with skilled technique,
it may be possible to carefully remove the broken part
and create a situation where replacement can be done.
There are two main ways to remove a broken prosthetic screw.
The first is to use a dedicated removal kit
provided by the implant company.

Using this kit may cause some minor damage
inside the fixture,
but it is much less burdensome for the patient
than reoperation.
The second method is to apply continuous micro-vibrations
between the prosthetic screw and the fixture threads
in order to loosen the screw.
Usually, a scaler used for removing tartar
is utilized to transmit the vibration.

The case shown at Geojeo Station Dental Clinic fortunately used the second method,
and when vibration was applied
with a thin periodontal treatment tip attached,
it came out well.

After confirming that part of the screw
had been successfully removed from the inside,
we can then fabricate a new prosthesis
and restore function.

If approached with the right method like this,
there are cases that can be resolved without reoperation.

When it is resolved this way,
there is no surgery,
so the overall treatment period and cost burden
can also be greatly reduced.
Therefore, when a problem occurs with an implant,
rather than always performing reoperation,
it is much more advantageous to preserve the existing implant
and replace or repair only the prosthesis.
As explained at Geojeo Station Dental Clinic,
what matters is finding a place that can replace and repair the prosthesis without damage.
Because implants are meant to be used for a long time once placed,
regular checkups and management are essential.
If you feel that it may be loose,
please receive an accurate diagnosis as soon as possible
and take appropriate measures!
This has been Geojeo Station Yonsei Dagam Dental Clinic.
Thank you!
