Hello, this is Ceramic Dental Clinic. Today, we’ve brought up the topic of rabbit teeth, something so many people worry about.
"My front teeth are especially big and protrude, so I end up covering my mouth with my hand when I laugh."
"I’ve been teased for having rabbit teeth since I was little, and even as an adult, it still feels like a complex."
When we consult with patients, we hear stories like this quite often.
Saying you don’t feel confident smiling is not something to brush off lightly.
Today, we’d like to talk honestly and help ease that long-standing concern.

What exactly does "rabbit teeth" refer to?
Rabbit teeth is not a medical diagnosis.
It usually refers to the two upper front teeth being especially large or protruding forward.
A celebrity example would be Nayeon.

But with rabbit teeth,
sometimes the front teeth are actually large, and other times the size is normal but they only appear protruded because of their position.
Because the treatment direction changes completely depending on the cause, an accurate diagnosis comes first.

Four major causes of rabbit teeth
In fact, there isn’t just one clear cause.
To briefly look at the main factors, they are as follows.
- Genetic factors
This is when the size of the parents’ teeth or the shape of the jawbone is inherited.
Cases where the front teeth themselves are naturally large fall into this category.
- Childhood habits such as thumb sucking
If habits like thumb sucking or sticking out the tongue continue for a long time during childhood,
the front teeth can be pushed forward.
Even weak force, if repeated over a long period, can change tooth position.
- Imbalance between jawbone and tooth size
If the jawbone is small but the teeth are large, the front teeth cannot settle into place and end up being pushed forward.
It may help to think of it as a situation where the parking lot is narrow but the car is big.^^

"Are there other options besides orthodontics?"
Orthodontic treatment takes too long, so I can’t bring myself to start.
I’m an adult—can I still get orthodontic treatment now?
We get questions like this very often.
To answer first: there is more than one option.
"Do rabbit teeth always have to be treated with orthodontics?"
Not necessarily.
The treatment method depends on the cause and how severe it is.
Broadly, there are three directions.
| Treatment method | Suitable cases | Approximate duration |
|---|
| Orthodontics | When the bone and tooth positions themselves are misaligned | 1–2 years or more |
| Laminate veneers | When only the tooth size needs to be adjusted | 1–2 weeks |
To use an analogy, orthodontics is like remodeling that changes the structure of a room itself,
while laminate veneers are like interior work that neatly replaces only the wallpaper and tiles.
If a place only recommends orthodontics no matter what, or only recommends shaving down the teeth no matter what, it’s worth being cautious.
That’s because there is a method suited to each patient’s condition.

Rabbit tooth veneers can be especially helpful for people like this
If you are in one of these situations, it may be worth looking into veneers instead of orthodontics
-
People whose front teeth are large and protruding, making them lose confidence when smiling
-
People who have had a rabbit teeth complex since childhood
-
People who find orthodontics burdensome and want a faster improvement
-
People who want to naturally refine the shape and size of their front teeth
On the other hand, the following cases need a different treatment first.
At Ceramic Dental Clinic, before treatment we perform a detailed oral scan and facial proportion analysis together.
After working as a dentist for more than 10 years,
the role we feel is most important is helping patients avoid regretting it after it’s done.
Because there are many aspects of teeth that cannot be reversed,
it is truly important to make a good treatment plan from the start.
That is why we strongly recommend receiving a consultation directly from an experienced specialist.

An old complex does not have to stay old forever
When we see people worried about rabbit teeth,
most of them have been worrying about it alone for a long time.
We understand that it’s not because they wanted to put it off.
However, one thing we’d like to say is that
dental technology today is very different from what it used to be.
If the cause is identified accurately, there are many cases that can be resolved more simply than expected.
If you bring a selfie taken from the angle that bothers you most when you come in for a consultation,
we can have a more specific discussion.^^
Please feel free to ask any questions anytime.
We think this may be helpful, even if we are speaking carefully.
This has been Ceramic Dental Clinic.
