I get this question very often. Most people expect to look better after orthodontic treatment, but in fact, the degree to which you can look prettier through orthodontics depends on the position of the jawbones.

That’s why I explain the degree of improvement after orthodontic treatment by dividing it into Grades 1 to 3.

Grade 1 / Cases where you can become the prettiest through orthodontics

People in this grade have an ideal relationship between the upper and lower jaws. In other words, the lower jawbone being positioned just slightly behind the upper jawbone is the most ideal arrangement.

In such cases, it does not matter much whether the front teeth protrude a lot, there are many overlapping teeth, or the tooth alignment is severely crooked; the chances of looking better after orthodontic treatment are high.

Grade 2 / Cases where you can look somewhat better after orthodontics

This refers to cases where the positions of the upper and lower jaws are not as perfect as in Grade 1, but are only slightly off.

For example, if the lower jawbone is slightly recessed or the lower jaw is slightly forward compared to the upper jaw, improvements after orthodontic treatment are definitely possible with differences like these. However, the degree of improvement may be a little less than in Grade 1.

Still, there is no need to be disappointed! Most patients are satisfied after orthodontic treatment.

Grade 3 / Cases that require caution after orthodontics

Cases in this grade involve severe skeletal imbalance.

In other words, if the lower jaw is too recessed, or conversely, if the lower jaw protrudes too much, the problem may not seem serious when the teeth are uneven. But after orthodontic treatment, the imbalance of the jawbones may become more noticeable.

So in Grade 3 cases, instead of simple orthodontic treatment, surgical orthodontic treatment, such as double-jaw surgery, may need to be considered. It is important to make this decision carefully after an accurate diagnosis.

In conclusion, the degree to which orthodontics makes you prettier depends on the position of the jawbones.
