Some time ago, I saw a post online saying that root canal treatment was included among the dental procedures even dentists considered frightening.

Since many people do seem to be afraid of it,

I would like to reassure you(?)

by explaining the treatment process with photos from an actual patient case.

1. Who Needs Root Canal Treatment

Many people know that root canal treatment is usually performed when tooth decay is severe, but let me explain it in a little more detail.

After making a diagnosis,

we determine that treatment is necessary if the dental pulp has been damaged.

What is the dental pulp?

It refers to the soft tissue inside the tooth.

The nerves are distributed extensively throughout this area.

2. Root Canal Treatment Process

✅ Removal of tooth decay and existing filling material

✅ Root canal treatment

✅ Restoration with a zirconia crown

Because the nerves are located inside the tooth, the decay must be removed first.

The exposed nerve is then removed, and the area is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

A filling material is placed to fill the empty space, and a dental prosthesis is placed over the tooth.

The prosthesis is usually a crown made of zirconia, gold, or another material.

3. Actual Treatment Case

If the tooth has previously placed treatment material, it must be removed first before treatment begins.

That is what happened in the case shown in the photos above.

Root canal treatment also requires multiple visits,

with continued treatment at each appointment.

At the final stage, a dental prosthesis must be fabricated.

Rather than simply removing the nerve and finishing there,

you can think of it as a process that removes existing inflammation and treats the tooth to help prevent recurrence.

Is Root Canal Treatment Expensive?

Because root canal treatment is covered by insurance,

the financial burden is relatively low even if you need to visit several times.

However, the cost of the dental prosthesis

varies considerably depending on the type.

Zirconia or gold is commonly used,

but prices vary from clinic to clinic,

so it is a good idea to inquire about this in advance.
