I’ll explain it simply: implant surgery duration
Hello, this is Seoul Centum Dental Clinic.
When it comes to implants, you probably know that they are a treatment that takes a long time,
but many people are not sure what the process actually looks like
or how long it takes.
We explain everything in detail during consultations,
but today, for those who are looking into it before visiting,
I’ll summarize it in an easy way.

Do I need an implant too?
If you already had a tooth extracted
or have previously received a consultation at another dental clinic,
an implant consultation can begin right away.
But if you are visiting because your teeth are in poor condition
and you are wondering whether you might need one,
you may first want to know whether you are a candidate.
So I’ll summarize it briefly.
🦷Simple summary of implant candidates🦷
---
(1) When the teeth/gums are in poor condition🔹 You have chronic periodontitis.🔹 You have severe cavities.🔹 The jawbone has been damaged due to trauma.
(2) When a tooth has already been extracted or there are no teeth🔹 The number of teeth is congenitally insufficient.🔹 Tooth loss makes daily life inconvenient.🔹 There is a tooth that needs to be extracted.
- Implant surgery duration - first stage
Did you know that implants involve a first and second surgery?
Some people become scared when they hear that surgery has to be done twice,
but there is no need to worry at all.
Depending on recovery speed and the treatment plan,
some cases are completed in the first stage, and even if there is a second stage,
it is simply part of the treatment and not especially difficult.

For the first stage of implant surgery,
the procedure and recovery usually take about 3 to 6 months.
In some cases, bone grafting is needed,
and time is required for the jawbone to fill in sufficiently,
so this is determined through diagnosis.
After the surgery, we check whether there is any discomfort,
and if cavities or root canal treatment are needed,
they may be performed at the same time.
- Implant surgery duration - second stage

Unlike the first stage,
the second stage is usually completed in a shorter period.
After the surgery, impressions are taken,
a custom prosthetic is made and placed, and that completes the process.
In between, the prosthetic may be temporarily placed for trial use,
and if there are no issues, final placement is performed.
This part may take more time.

- Dental clinic checklist for implant surgery
The total time required is important,
but the most important thing is which dental clinic you choose.
It is necessary to carefully check
how reasonable the cost is
and whether the medical staff are trustworthy.
Also, depending on the individual, sinus lift surgery
or bone grafting may be necessary.
It is a good idea to check in advance
whether these parts are also explained in detail beforehand.
Going forward, through this blog,
I will continue to share helpful information such as
prosthetic types
and precautions after implant surgery.
