Types of Orthodontic Appliances
Let Me Explain Them One by One

Hello, this is Seoul Centum Dental Clinic.
These days, orthodontic consultations have increased quite a bit,
so I have been explaining appliances more often.
There are so many good appliances these days
that you can choose according to your personal preference.
However, since they have to be attached for a long period of 1 to 2 years,
it is only natural to be careful when choosing.
Today, to help you decide,
I will go over the types of orthodontic appliances
that are actually used often, one by one, in detail.

- Clippy-M
You may have heard of Clippy-C,
but is Clippy-M new to you?
These two are appliances made by the same company,
and they are distinguished by being written as
Clippy-M
Clippy-C
To explain the names first,
they are clip-type brackets.
M = metal material.
Because it is metal, it is very durable
and relatively affordable compared with other appliances.
However, the drawback is that it is easy to see.

- Clippy-C
Likewise, it is also clip-type,
and C = ceramic bracket.
It is more esthetically pleasing than metal
and less of a financial burden than other appliances,
so it is one of the most commonly used types of orthodontic appliances.
Right! I keep mentioning clip-type brackets here,
but rather than securing each bracket one by one
with thin wire,
the clip-type cover holds the wire in place,
so it is an appliance that is comfortable for both the medical staff and the patient.

- Mini tube (MTA)
Among orthodontic appliances, it is the smallest,
so it is the most esthetically pleasing.
As the name suggests, it is a small tube shape.
However, because of that,
it has lower friction,
so it is more suitable for simple cases.
It is especially recommended for partial orthodontic treatment.
It is excellent in both cost and esthetics,
so it is a very good appliance for partial orthodontic treatment!
Some dental clinics do not use mini tubes,
so you should check in advance during your consultation
what types of orthodontic appliances are available.

- Invisalign (clear aligners)
This is a removable type of orthodontic appliance,
rather than a bracket system that is attached directly to the teeth.
When people first encounter clear aligners,
they often prefer them because they can be removed and worn again conveniently,
and they are barely noticeable.
In fact, the ability to remove them is both an advantage
and a critical disadvantage.
This is because they are surprisingly very troublesome to manage.
Also, because they are recommended for simple cases,
a detailed consultation is essential when choosing them.
In addition, the cost is determined by the number of appliances,
so they are recommended for short-term orthodontic treatment.

Today, I explained the four representative appliances
that first come to mind when you think of types of orthodontic appliances.
In addition to these, there are appliances from various brands such as Damon and S-Line,
so rather than choosing based only on the pros and cons,
please be sure to visit a dental clinic,
receive an orthodontic examination,
and choose after consulting with the medical staff.
Then I will come back next time with more useful
information about dental treatment.
Thank you.
