Cavity Treatment
"At what stage am I?"
Hello, this is Seoul Centum Dental Clinic.
We often receive many questions about the materials used for cavity treatment.
Usually, the material is not chosen first; it should be selected according to the stage of the cavity.
So today, I’d like to explain the different stages and the materials suited to each one.

- Tooth Structure
I’m not trying to explain technical terms such as the pulp, alveolar bone, or root canal^^
To understand the stages of cavities, it is enough to look at the enamel, dentin, and pulp!
What is the 기준 for judging whether a cavity is "deep" or whether "a tooth is badly decayed"?
When you look at the tooth cross-section above,
it is based on how far the damage has reached.

- Cavity Stages
Let me continue with the tooth cross-section.
As you can see in the image above,
what matters is which part has been damaged~
Enamel / Dentin / Pulp / Periodontium
The severity of the cavity increases in this order.
Since the pulp and periodontium are located inside the tooth,
damage reaching these areas means
there will also be pain, and treatment will be carried out over several visits.
This often requires what is commonly called root canal treatment,
and you will also need to consider crowns and implants.
More specific materials and treatment methods
will be explained below.

- Cavity Treatment Methods and Materials
If a cavity is found early, even if it is visible to the naked eye,
it can be treated simply with resin.
In many cases, the treatment can be completed on the same day.
From inlays onward, an impression is taken,
so you will need to visit the clinic at least twice.
Root canal treatment, which many people fear,
is performed when the pulp has been damaged,
and a crown is placed after the root canal treatment.
You can choose the crown material based on your personal preference
or your lifestyle habits.
Finally, if extraction is necessary because the periodontium has been damaged,
an implant will be performed.
Please refer to the post below for how implant treatment is carried out^^
There, I explained the treatment period and each step in detail.
The most important thing in cavity treatment is detecting it early,
and that is possible through regular oral examinations.
Therefore, it is a good idea to have scaling once a year
and receive an oral examination at the same time.

Or if you notice something that looks like a cavity while brushing,
it is best to visit as soon as possible.
There are cases where treatment is not needed immediately,
and it is enough to monitor it regularly over time,
so please visit first and consult with the medical staff.
If you need an oral examination or cavity treatment,
please feel free to contact us.
Thank you.
