| How Many Times Do You Need to Visit the Dentist for the Implant Procedure? |
Hello, this is Seoul Centum Dental Clinic.
Yesterday, while busy conducting implant consultations, I was reminded of one question I hear repeatedly, so I thought I’d make it today’s post topic.
How many times do I need to come for an implant?
Since the treatment itself was satisfying, they wanted to bring their parents from out of town as well, but they were worried because of the distance.
What makes this a little difficult is that it depends on the case.
So today, I’ll explain using the case where both the first and second procedures are performed.

- Implant Components
Before explaining the implant procedure or the number of visits, it’s first necessary to understand the components.
If you look at the image above,
prosthesis / abutment / fixture
it consists of these three parts, right?
The fixture is the root part of the tooth,
the crown is the tooth part,
and the abutment is the part that connects the two.

- Number of Visits for an Implant
After the first surgery, suture removal,
then after the second surgery, impression taking,
temporary placement, and final placement,
broadly speaking, it is divided into six stages.
If the gums are in good condition, you can receive diagnosis and consultation
and even have the first surgery on the same day.
Also, if you live far away,
you may be able to have only the suture removal done
at a dental clinic near your home.
And since the second surgery is not performed for everyone,
you can reduce the number of visits a little in this way.

- First Surgery
Let’s talk about the process in a little more detail.
This first surgery is a step that everyone
must go through.
That’s because the fixture has to be placed into the jawbone
for the later steps to be possible.
If there is insufficient jawbone,
bone grafting will also be added.
And then, after some time, the condition is checked.

- Second Surgery
After placing the fixture,
the progress is monitored and the second surgery is scheduled.
This is the process of exposing the root using a material called a healing abutment.
It can be seen as a necessary step for making the implant prosthesis.
For a real case that went through the second surgery,
please refer to the post below.^^
Also, as mentioned earlier,
if a one-piece fixture is used,
this step can be omitted.

- Crown Completion
Now it’s the final step.
The implant is completed by placing the crown,
which corresponds to the head of the tooth.
Looking at it this way, the implant procedure
isn’t that complicated, right?
Today I only gave a brief overview of the overall process
and how many times you need to visit the dentist,
but in reality there are processes such as interim checks,
temporary placement, and final placement in between.
After surgery or after placement,
you actually go through daily life and
if there are any discomforts, adjustments may be made.
Since every step is important,
if coming to the clinic is inconvenient for you,
please be sure to let us know in advance
so that the schedule can be adjusted.
If you have any further questions about the implant procedure or
how many times you need to visit the dentist,
please leave a comment.^^
