If You Are Considering Implants at the Root Canal Treatment Stage
Hello, this is Seoul Centum Dental Clinic.
Today, I’d like to explain root canal treatment, which many people are afraid of.
If cavities are found early and treated right away,
simple treatment with resin is possible,
but if they are left untreated or found late,
the scope of treatment and the cost tend to grow.
Today, I’ll show you a real case of a patient whose cavities had progressed significantly.

Consultation Details
The consultation began with an honest confession of sorts that they had neglected oral care in daily life.
We marked the parts of the tooth that needed treatment.
(The photo and the actual teeth are in the opposite direction.)
🦷 Current Condition & Treatment Plan 🦷
---
(1) Current condition🔹 There is a molar damaged by a wisdom tooth🔹There is a tooth with cavities that have progressed to more than half of the tooth
(2) Treatment plan🔹[Upper right] Root canal treatment for the molar🔹[Lower left] Wisdom tooth extraction🔹[Lower left] Placement of 2 implants

- Start of Root Canal Treatment
The cavities had already progressed significantly,
and more than half of the tooth required treatment.
The patient visited several times for consistent root canal treatment,
which took about two months.
In this case,
we judged that it would be better to extract the wisdom teeth,
so we decided to extract all three.
We extracted the upper right side first,
which was the tooth scheduled for root canal treatment first,
and then proceeded with the rest in sequence.
If you look at the before-and-after comparison images,
you can see that the treatment was neatly completed.

- Start of Implant Treatment
After also taking a periapical X-ray for diagnosis,
the wisdom tooth marked in the image
had caused problems in the adjacent tooth as well.
In cases like this, it is impossible to save the tooth again,
so the tooth must be extracted and an implant placed.
If wisdom teeth erupt properly and are well maintained, that is fortunate,
but they can also damage neighboring teeth like this.
Because they are located far back,
cavities and gum disease can also develop,
so extraction is recommended.

This is the X-ray taken after implant placement in the lower left area.
Because both implants were placed as one-piece implants,
a second surgery was not necessary,
and we allowed enough time for the gums to heal.
We carefully checked the patient again one month later and two months later,
and were also able to monitor the progress of the root canal treatment.
Fortunately, there was no discomfort with either treatment,
so we decided to proceed with the prosthetic restorations right away.

This is the completed implant result.
I have omitted explanations about other wisdom tooth extractions
and additional cavity treatments in the middle.
(Because the content would become too long...)
In this case, there was sufficient jawbone,
so bone grafting was not performed.
The implant placement was stable and in the correct direction,
and the prosthetic restoration was also completed without any issues.

Root Canal Treatment and Implant Results
Two months after the implant surgery date,
we also did a checkup.
Fortunately, the patient said they were using it well without discomfort.
In this case,
the patient came in consistently for regular checkups,
including at 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, and 6 months.
They said they reflected on having neglected care in the past
and had developed a new mindset~
It was very fortunate that the treatment was completed well,
but seeing them continue to care for their oral health like this
was also very rewarding.
Today, I’ll end by emphasizing once again
the importance of care after treatment
and finish this long post.
I’ll come back next time with another treatment case.
Thank you^^
