Types of Dental Crowns
I’ll give you a complete summary to make choosing easier.

Hello, this is Seoul Centum Dental Clinic.
I have been writing a lot lately about implants,
but crown treatment is also something many people ask about.
You may know the treatment is necessary,
but since there are several types,
it seems difficult to choose,
so I’ll explain the pros and cons of each one in an easy way.

- What is crown treatment?
If the area affected by decay is small,
it may be possible to treat it with only resin or an inlay,
but if the damaged area from decay is large,
root canal treatment and a crown are needed.
It means placing a tooth-shaped prosthesis to protect a weakened tooth that has been damaged.

- Crown type - PFM
The biggest advantage of PFM is that it is less of a burden.
It is also made quickly, so both the time burden and cost burden are relatively low.
However, it is somewhat weak in strength
and has the drawback of possible discoloration.
So if the cost is okay,
many people look for other materials rather than PFM.

- Crown type - Gold
This is the gold crown, which has been widely used consistently for a long time.
It does not discolor over time
and its strength is also fairly good.
However, because it is gold, it tends to be expensive,
and since its color is different from teeth,
aesthetics are somewhat less favorable.
It is often chosen when restoring back molars
or based on personal preference.

- Crown type - Zirconia
In dental clinics, zirconia is also widely used for implant treatment,
so you may have heard about it a lot recently.
Since its color can be matched to the surrounding teeth,
its aesthetics are excellent.
It has good biocompatibility
and is quite durable,
which is why many people choose it.
However, because it is strong,
you should also be aware in advance
that it may cause wear.

At first, you may think, “It will get better...”
and put off your dental checkup,
which means tooth decay may not be caught early.
If decay is left untreated, the affected area grows,
and later root canal treatment and crown treatment become necessary.
Even fear of dental treatment can be difficult,
so I wrote this post to at least help reduce the 고민 about the different types.
If you have any more questions
or need an explanation about other dental treatments,
please leave a comment feel free~
I’ll explain things simply with real treatment cases.
Thank you for reading this long post today.
