Basically, the wavelength determines how deeply or shallowly the laser reaches into the skin.

For example, 532 nm has a short wavelength, so it is well absorbed by the epidermis and works well on pigment in shallow areas of the skin, such as freckles.

On the other hand, 1064 nm has a longer wavelength and can penetrate deep into the dermis. Although it can reach deeper areas, its melanin absorption rate is relatively low.
