Do Not Cross That River, Too Precious to Miss

We visited Lotte Mall in Suwon, which had just newly opened a few days ago.

Inside Lotte Mall, there were Lotte Department Store, Lotte Mart, and Lotte Cinema.

My wife and I watched the movie Do Not Cross That River.

Lotte Cinema was located on the 5th floor of Lotte Mall, and the movie screening information was shown on the electronic display in front of the screen.

We came here to see The Hobbit.

One thing I was curious about in the title Do Not Cross That River was which river it referred to.

Was it a flowing river?

Or was it the river of death?

I had these questions in mind.

What I liked most about these seats was the spacing between the seats, front and back.

It was so spacious and comfortable that it felt less like economy class and more like business class.

The screen was also large and clear, making it perfect for enjoying a movie.

One especially memorable scene in the movie was when the grandfather picked a yellow flower and gave it to the grandmother.

While they were together, I could feel that age was just a number, and the story filled with love and care was deeply moving.

The grandmother had gotten married at 14 and was now 89 years old; it was the love story of an elderly couple who had lived as lovers for 76 years.

Watching a story like this made me realize how precious time together is.

When the grandmother said her knee joint hurt, he blew on it with his mouth.

With that little “hoo,” the grandfather’s heart was conveyed to the grandmother.

As they spend time together, the urgent feeling of wanting to stay with each other keeps drawing closer.

Do not cross that river. Director Jin Moo-young’s work, with Mrs. Kang Gye-yeol and her husband Mr. Jo Myeong-man.

The scene where they wore saekdong jeogori and walked hand in hand was beautiful, affectionate, and gave the impression of a very loving couple.

The grandmother wore the yellow chrysanthemum the grandfather had tucked into her hair and looked at him with a face that seemed to say, “Am I pretty?”; her expression was pure and lovely like a child’s.

She reminded me of my late maternal grandmother, and I found myself thinking about grandmothers.

The scenes of them dancing together lightly and gently touching each other’s faces with yellow chrysanthemums were truly moving.

They even went to the bathroom together because they were afraid it might be dark and scary, and the way they whispered while holding hands tightly brought to mind the love of young lovers.

I applaud the love of the two people who have been in love for 76 years.

The way they enjoyed themselves while playing a staring contest really does suit the saying that they are like children.

The final season of a love that was thought to be eternal is approaching.

The time to cross the river that should not be crossed is also drawing near.

But in my heart, I want to shout, “Do not cross that river.”

This moving love story is said to have been made in documentary form by recording an elderly grandfather and grandmother, not professional actors.

The two of them have held the same clasped hands for 76 years, which is truly wonderful.
