If your wisdom tooth has just started to erupt,
or if you are worried because sudden pain has appeared,
I think there are probably some of you like that.
You may be hoping someone will tell you that it does not need to be removed, haha.
When my own wisdom tooth started to erupt,
I also thought, "My teeth will be fine!"
But if pain appears around a wisdom tooth even once,
there is a very high chance that leaving it alone could lead to bigger problems,
so you should definitely get a dental checkup.
In English, it is called a wisdom tooth,
a nice-sounding name, but in reality,
a friend that is definitely not lovable...
From the pain that makes you think, "Why now of all times?"
to impacted teeth hiding inside the gums
and secretly causing trouble,
there are many really troublesome cases.
So today,
from the causes of wisdom tooth pain
to the cases where extraction is absolutely necessary,
and even precautions after extraction,
I will neatly organize your concerns.
The reason pain occurs is
most often because it is a "partially erupted" tooth.
The third molar only peeks out a little,
and it is as if it is staging a protest inside the gum..
The gum that covers it like a blanket
often becomes inflamed.
It swells, hurts, and bleeds too.
The second issue is alignment problems.
When a tooth is coming in, it can act like, "Make some room for me!"
and push against the other teeth,
which can lead to misalignment.
If the third molar pushes so that the molar in front shifts toward the cheek,
brushing becomes extremely difficult,
so the other molars can easily decay as well.
Lastly,
cavities in the wisdom tooth can be a problem.
Because it is located in the very back corner,
it is hard for a toothbrush to reach,
so cavities can develop before you even notice.
A lot of people ask, "Can’t I just leave the wisdom tooth alone?"
If the wisdom tooth is staying in place without causing any particular problems,
I would not necessarily tell you to have it removed in advance,
but if any of the situations below apply,
you should seriously consider extraction..
- When gum inflammation keeps recurring
- When it pushes against the adjacent tooth
- When there is a cyst in an impacted wisdom tooth
- When pain develops in the jaw
- When a cavity develops

In particular, wisdom teeth that erupt in the very back often
are not brushed properly,
so they easily decay.
If I see that a tooth has decayed, I cannot just leave it alone.
I tell patients that it should definitely be removed.

When removing a wisdom tooth,
you need to create enough space for it to come out,
right?
But if too much healthy bone is removed
or the gum is incised too much,
swelling after extraction can last for quite a long time.
Of course, there are definitely cases
where that much work is necessary to remove the tooth... so sometimes there is no choice.
However, if treatment is performed through minimal incision,
with minimal invasiveness,
and through non-traumatic extraction,
the discomfort after removal does not last that long.

Has your wisdom tooth concern been somewhat
resolved?
Still, visiting the dentist
is likely something you may hesitate about.
But
if you keep putting off a problem, it often ends up creating a bigger one,
so be sure to come in early,
get an examination,
and if extraction is necessary,
it is better to remove it quickly!
Please remember that.
