A few days ago, a man in his early 30s came to the clinic.

He had fallen while exercising and chipped his front tooth.
One of his acquaintances happened to be a dentist, and they recommended,
"They’re really good with front teeth there, so be sure to go."
He spoke casually, but looking at the fractured area, I remember the expression on his face as if it had been bothering him a little every time he smiled.
The front teeth have a greater effect on facial impression and the naturalness of speaking than on chewing food.
Rather than simply the idea of ‘filling it in,’ this is a place where you need the sense of ‘redesigning a collapsed impression.’
- Front tooth fracture: analyzing the cause is important.

The reason the patient came in was clear.
"I fell while exercising, and my front tooth chipped."

What was immediately noticeable was that one corner of the central incisor had fractured in a cusp-like shape, and the opposite side showed slight wear and signs of impact on the occlusal surface.
But in a situation like this, I don’t look at only the front tooth.
-
How deep the actual fracture had progressed
-
Whether the external impact affected nearby teeth, the gums,
or the temporomandibular joint
-
How the patient’s bite force had been acting
-
Whether microcracks or pulp exposure accompanied the fractured area
By checking these factors one by one, we first need to judge whether this is simply a case of one front tooth breaking, or whether a broader issue is involved as well.

Fortunately, the fractured area was not deep and did not affect the nerve, so we decided on a resin restoration without removing tooth structure, preserving the natural tooth.
But restoring a tooth in this position does not end with a simple resin filling.

What we focused on was making it so that no one could even tell where it had been restored.
To do that, the following elements were essential:
■ Symmetry and flow along the lip line
■ The connection between the tooth surface’s texture and gloss
■ Layering divided to resemble the interior of a natural tooth
■ A polished surface treatment that makes the boundary disappear

In particular, at Banpo-dong Dental Clinic, this process is completed not by a machine but through sense and intuition.
That is why it becomes possible to match each differently shaped tooth to suit the person’s impression!
- We carried out layering so it would look like a natural tooth.

The treatment began with complete moisture control using a rubber dam.
In resin restoration, even a small amount of moisture or saliva seeping into the mouth can affect bonding strength, so maintaining a clean environment is the first step in restoration.
The front tooth restoration at Banpo-dong Dental Clinic is not a method of simply filling it with a single color.
It is performed using a multilayer layering method that separates and adjusts the structure, color, and translucency of the natural tooth.

The same was true for this patient.
At first glance, the tooth appeared white, but in reality the inside of the tooth was an opaque ivory tone, while toward the outer surface it was composed of a brighter, more translucent tone.
To make it look like a natural tooth when light hits it, that structure had to be replicated precisely.

So at Banpo-dong Dental Clinic, we used a slightly muted color on the inside to build the framework, adjusted the middle portion to match the brightness of the natural tooth, and then used a transparent resin on the outer portion to create the feeling of holding light.
After stacking each layer like this, we carefully refined it so the borders would not be noticeable, and finished by reproducing even the fine textures and reflected light patterns that are seen only on the surface of a natural tooth^^
- A good result is one where it does not look like you had treatment.

After the treatment was finished, the patient looked into the mirror and was momentarily at a loss for words.
"I really can’t tell where it was treated..!"
Hearing that, I smiled and added a few words myself.

"The front teeth are a place where, if treatment goes well, even you yourself forget about itㅎㅎ
We restored it with care so that the chip wouldn’t show, so I hope you can use it comfortably from now on."
In fact, the best result in restoration is when it does not look like you had treatment.
Function is basic, aesthetics require sense, and within that, preserving the natural tooth—that is the core of the treatment I value most.
Every time I restore a front tooth, I always have the same principles.
Banpo-dong Dental Clinic
📌 Never look at the visible area superficially
📌 Never forget that even a small difference can change a person’s impression
📌 Believe that sense can only be completed through sense
When I come across cases like this one, where another dentist recommended us to an acquaintance, it makes me want to treat even more delicately, honestly, and confidentlyㅎㅎ
I hope the trust someone placed in us is passed on to the patient as well.

The moment of breaking is brief, but the stress it causes tends to linger much longer than expected.
So when I restore that one moment, my goal is to go beyond simply filling it in and return it to the way it would have been if it had never happened in the first place.
From now on, Banpo-dong Dental Clinic will continue to focus not on simple restoration, but on creating restorations that produce results similar to natural teeth.
Thank you.
*Depending on the case, treatment may vary, but in the end, I believe what matters most is having the eye to accurately see the tooth’s condition and the sense to choose the right method accordingly.
*This treatment may cause side effects such as debonding and sensitivity.
