A Case of a Seocho-dong Dental Clinic Patient Who Came from Gwangju, Jeolla Province for Resin Retreatment

I searched online because I wanted to get resin retreatment

and came all the way from Gwangju, Jeolla Province!

When I heard that from the patient, I was really surprised...

After hearing that, I felt even more proud that I had recently gone to Japan for resin training^^

Two months ago, at another dental clinic, they filled the cavity between the front teeth with resin, but they were bothered by how rough the surface was and how visible the boundary became when light reflected off it.

They also said the surface was so rough that they kept touching it with their tongue.

They tried treatment once more at the same clinic, but in the end they decided, “This isn’t it,” and came all the way to Seoul.

When I heard they had come from so far away, I joked first. “Since you came all this way, I’ll have to show you a clear difference.”

At the same time, I also thought, 'They must have been so worried to travel that far..?' So first I examined the condition and decided to do my best to improve it.

For front tooth treatment, color is important, but shape and polishing are just as important.

These days, materials are so good that anyone can match the color, but shape and polishing require the clinician’s hands-on feelㅎㅎ

So, here was the plan we made!

Without removing any tooth structure at all, we would completely remove only the existing material, restore the tooth’s original curve so it would not look angular,

and through thorough polishing, create a surface so smooth that even when touched with the tongue, the boundary between the tooth and the resin would not be felt at all.

Because resin is vulnerable to moisture, strict moisture control is essential.

So I worked while repeatedly checking that isolation was being maintained properly, and I also carefully checked with Qray to make sure there was no remaining decay or resin.

After removing all the existing resin, I created a bonding layer and built up several layers of resin with a tooth-like color and similar translucency.

Apply one layer, harden it, apply another, harden it.... You have to carefully build it up layer by layer and work with great care.

From the patient’s perspective, this process can take a long time and feel boring^^;;

They seemed a little tired, so I smiled and said, “This is like magicㅋㅋ After it’s done, you’ll say, ‘This is resin?’” and after treatment they really said exactly that.

After completion, the tooth boundary disappeared, and even under natural light it looked smooth with no rough areas.

After treatment, a very thin “black triangle” remained between the gums and the teeth.

But I made it that way on purpose.

To bring out a natural curve, there are areas where the gums do not fully meet.

If you forcefully fill that in, it only becomes unnatural.

Also, if dental floss cannot pass between the teeth, hygiene becomes difficult, cavities develop more easily, and gum inflammation occurs more often.
