Because my front teeth were spaced apart,
I wanted to improve them.
I’m going to be in a beauty pageant soon~
I want my front teeth to look prettier too.
I can really feel that winter break has officially started.
During vacation, there are noticeably more patients in their 20s coming in for consultations about their front teethㅎㅎ
This time, the patient who came in was a woman in her early 20s who made a Naver reservation after reading my blog, my book, and various search results.

“I'm going to be in a beauty pageant…”
At the moment I heard that, the thought that flashed through my mind was, ‘It’s important to make it look natural and not obvious!’ So how did it turn out?ㅎㅎ
Let me go through it one by one. If you’re looking for a simple way to fix a gap between front teeth with resin, please check the after-treatment photos as well :)
Why the gap between the front teeth happened
After examining her, the reason for the gap between the teeth was simple. The problem wasn’t the space between them; the tooth shape was flared out.

The top was wide and the bottom was narrow,
it was exactly a jar shape.

In cases like this, even without orthodontic treatment and without filing down the teeth, simply reshaping them with resin can make the gap look naturally closed.
But there is one condition: it has to be done well.
If you go a little too far, the gap between the front teeth can look bigger, and if you do a little too little, the gap will remain.
To make it feel natural when smiling
This is a method I’ve explained many times before. For this treatment, we planned to use resin veneers.
It’s a method that rebuilds the shape by adding only the necessary parts a little at a time, without shaving the teeth.

But the important point here was not
‘Let’s close the gap between the front teeth no matter what,’ but rather
‘Let’s make it as natural as possible when this patient smiles.’
Since forced smiles can show immediately on a beauty pageant stage, we decided to plan everything while considering the front view and even the angle at which the lips move when smiling.
And instead of making it look like fake teeth, we decided to close the gap between the front teeth while preserving a natural appearance, as if they had always been her own teeth.

To create a bright and clean impression, we also decided to do teeth whitening.
Since resin comes in different shades, we first did the whitening, and once the color stabilized, we planned the treatment using a matching shade.

Because she agreed to use her facial photos, we created a virtual simulation and showed her in advance what the result after resin treatment would look like.
Facial harmony considered in the shape
Before doing the resin, we cleaned her teeth with AirFlow and then started with whitening.
AirFlow GBT was developed by EMS in Switzerland,
and it is a very expensive device imported into Korea.

The scaler built into the dental chair as a basic option didn’t remove staining very well, so I purchased a separate one for cleaner scaling.
(I still think it was one of my smartest purchases, and not a waste at all😊)

Before whitening, we checked the tooth color.

Her teeth were darker than her skin tone.
If you look at the area with the numbers below, the canine teeth had a yellowish color close to 3 to 3.5.
(*The closer the number is to 1, the whiter it is.)

Even with whitening on the same day, we could see that the teeth had become much brighter. The color had lightened to almost the same shade as number 1.
Since teeth continue to get brighter for up to 72 hours after whitening, we decided to do the resin treatment one week later.
After checking the shade, we carried out the resin veneer work to match it.

After isolation from moisture, we finished by layering aesthetic restorative resin one layer at a time using the layering technique.

The optical characteristics of natural teeth that I always talk about and emphasize!
Translucent layer
We reproduced that translucent layer well, right!?
Resin for gaps between front teeth
can change how a person looks with just a millimeter’s difference.
That’s why you should look at the harmony of the whole face, not just the teeth.
What changed before the front teeth was the expression
After treatment, she looked in the mirror and her smile was different from before. It wasn’t just that the space had closed; her face looked like it no longer had anything to worry aboutㅎㅎ
She said, “I think I can smile brightly on stage.” So when I told her, “Think of it as if you’ve passed the preliminaries~,” she smiled even more brightly.

I hope she goes all the way to the grand prize at the beauty pageant with her newly confident teeth🙏🏻

Having a gap between the front teeth does not mean everyone must get orthodontic treatment.
If the gap between the front teeth is caused by the shape of the teeth, it can be changed sufficiently without shaving or orthodontics.
However, the goal of front tooth treatment is not simply to make the teeth pretty. It is to make them so natural that no one can tell, and so comfortable that even you yourself don’t need to be conscious of them as artificial teeth.
A state where you don’t think, “Does this look okay?” when smiling, and don’t need to cover your mouth first when taking a photoㅎㅎ That, to me, is the standard for saying that treatment for a gap between the front teeth has gone well.
That’s why I always treat front teeth carefully and meticulously.
