This patient had previously undergone extraction orthodontic treatment, but due to deep overbite, the upper retainer was not managed well, and she visited the clinic because she was bothered by the slight gap in the front teeth and one tooth protruding. She said that because of the deep overbite, the upper and lower front teeth were hitting each other, causing the retainer to come off, and as retainer management was not going well, the gap between the front teeth kept widening and the right front tooth kept protruding.

If appliance-based orthodontic treatment were used, it would be unaesthetic for daily social life, and because it would take a long time, she wanted treatment as quickly as possible and requested Invisalign Express for only the upper front teeth.

After finishing the first set

With a total of 7 Invisalign aligners, the protruding right lateral incisor was aligned and the space between the gapped front teeth was closed tightly. After the 7 aligners were completed, there was still a slight feeling that the lateral incisor was touching the lower front teeth, so additional aligners were planned.

After the treatment process with the total of 7 aligners was completed, a new ClinCheck treatment plan was established to further treat the parts that had not yet been fully finished. In this patient's case, the front tooth angulation was adjusted a little more, and the upper front teeth were generally moved slightly upward to improve the deep overbite so that the front teeth would not touch each other.

With Invisalign, there is something called additional aligners, which you can think of as a finishing process to improve areas that need a bit more correction after the entire treatment process is completed. The number of additional aligner sets possible varies depending on the type of Invisalign appliance, and in the case of Invisalign Express, one set of additional aligners can be made within 6 months of the start of treatment.

Comparison of before and after deep overbite treatment

Over a treatment period of about 3 months, the misaligned right front tooth was neatly aligned and the space between the teeth was tightly closed. In addition, the upper front teeth were slightly moved upward so that the upper and lower front teeth would not strongly contact each other, improving the deep overbite.

In the case of a deep overbite, partial treatment with regular orthodontic appliances is not easy, but with Invisalign, a certain degree of improvement in deep overbite is possible even with partial treatment. After finishing treatment, fixed retainers were attached up to the canines, and removable retainers were made so that the teeth would not shift or open again.
