When your mouth gets sore, even a small wound can
make eating,
speaking,
and brushing your teeth constantly irritating,
which makes daily life uncomfortable.
In particular, many people worry and ask, “Why did I suddenly get a mouth sore?”

Mouth sores (stomatitis)
are one of the most common oral conditions that appear when you are tired or your immunity is low,
or when the oral mucosa is exposed to friction, heat, or irritation.
Causes of stomatitis
The most common causes of mouth wounds or stomatitis are
stress and weakened immunity.

If this is combined with irritation such as frequent biting, hot food, or strong friction while brushing,
the oral mucosa becomes weakened and wounds form more easily.
The same reason is often behind sores on the inside of the lips.
Why it doesn’t heal quickly
The mouth is exposed to many irritants such as saliva, food, and brushing,
so wounds hurt longer than they do in other areas.
Also, the reasons pain lasts for a long time when you have a mouth sore are as follows.

• The wound keeps bumping against teeth or food
• Irritation from spicy or hot food
• Dry mouth reduces the mucosa’s protective function
When this irritation repeats,
the wound in the mouth lasts longer,
and stomatitis can recur.
How to heal mouth sores quickly
Among the ways to care for mouth sores, the most effective method is
to let the affected area rest without irritation.

• Eat soft foods that do not irritate the area
• Avoid very hot or spicy foods
• If you have dry mouth symptoms, gargle with saline solution
• Improve mucosal recovery with vitamin B and C

In particular, when you have mouth sores, it is better to brush gently rather than scrubbing hard.
Will a stomatitis ointment (steroid ointment) help?
If the inflammation in the mouth is severe, a stomatitis ointment sold at pharmacies
(triamcinolone-based) may help.

This ointment is effective in reducing wound pain
and quickly calming stomatitis inflammation.

However, if it occurs repeatedly,
or if a wound in the mouth does not heal for more than 2 weeks,
steroid ointment alone may not solve the problem,
so the underlying cause should be checked separately.
When to go to the hospital
If you have the following symptoms when your mouth gets sore,
do not wait for it to heal on its own,
and it is better to get examined.

• The wound does not heal for more than 2 weeks
• Multiple blisters or ulcers appear in the mouth
• The pain gradually gets worse
• Stomatitis accompanied by fever
• Mouth wounds recur frequently
In such cases,
bacterial infection, fungus, or immune disease
may be the cause.
If you want mouth sores to heal quickly?
Mouth sores
usually get better within a few days,
but they are a symptom that causes major discomfort in daily life and can recur easily.
Reducing irritation
and creating an environment that allows the oral mucosa to recover
is the most important way to help mouth sores heal quickly.

If you get mouth wounds frequently
or they persist for a long time,
it may help to identify the exact cause.
