“Let us boldly go where no one has gone before.”
(To boldly go where no man has gone before.)

This line comes from the opening narration of the American classic sci-fi series Star Trek.

In one article, archery medalist Kim Woo-jin also said something similar.
Kim Woo-jin said, “Foreign athletes’ skills have improved a lot.
So we must not become complacent,” and added, “Pioneers have to make the road in front.
We are continuously creating paths that others will follow.”
Those words resonate beyond the sports field and speak to our lives as well.
Someone walks ahead and makes a path, and then someone else follows and goes even farther. That is the ideal I admire.

When I talk with many doctors, I sometimes hear them say:
“It's boring.”
When you repeat the same consultations, the same prescriptions, the same procedures and surgeries every day, that can happen.
But if you study a little each day, search for and read new papers, and grow to enjoy updating your medical knowledge, it doesn't feel boring. On the contrary, it feels exciting and fun.
Medicine brings new knowledge, new technologies, and new ingredients and drugs every day.
If you accept and apply those changes, there is no time to be bored.
So I think to myself:
“A doctor who says medicine is boring may be a doctor who does not study.”

I work on treating hair loss, but in fact, what I have been trying to move forward may be people's hope.
So I have continued to try new things until now, and I still do.
I turned on ultrasound to read blood flow inside the scalp more precisely, held a microjet in my hands to change the drug delivery path, and even tried using a hyperbaric oxygen device to improve graft survival.
I researched new ingredients for hair loss, and when I started completely new methods, there was anxiety and hesitation, but there were small changes that could only be found on that path.
Slightly denser hair, a slightly more satisfied look in someone's eyes. At each of those moments, I take another new step.

A path no one has walked before is not grand.
The small traces left on the floor of the clinic every day, myself walking along them, and the one step you may one day take quietly as you read this—together, they make a new path.
Suddenly, I am reminded of the lyrics to Yoo Jae-ha's “Hidden Path.”

Hidden Path
-Yoo Jae-ha-

Barely visible, wavering,
A road wrapped in mist
Almost within reach, yet drifting farther away,
A road like a rainbow
Where on earth is it waiting for me?
I look around, but I cannot find it

Please give me strength,
So I can find the path given to me
Please clear the way,
My hidden path

Should I go this way, or that way?
It all seems so far away
As if drawn along, the one who departs—
Have they found their own road?
After waving them off,
When only loneliness surrounds me

Please give me strength,
So I can find the path given to me
Please clear the way,
My hidden path
