Today, I’d like to share a story that is a little different from usual: a book I recently read and gained a great deal of insight from.
It is James Clear’s 『Atomic Habits』.

Even aside from the time I spend meeting with patients during my plastic surgery consultations and procedures, I personally place great importance on self-management and energy management, and this book was extremely practical and helpful for me.
“The magic of ‘when’ and ‘where’: give your habits a time and place
The most interesting part of the book was the following sentence.
“People who make a specific plan for when and where they will carry out a new habit are far more likely to stick to it.”
It sounds so obvious when you hear it, but it’s not always easy to put into practice. Still, after reading this sentence, I also started reviewing my morning routine and organizing it little by little.
Example: Creating my own morning routine
These days, my morning routine goes like this.

When I wake up in the morning, I make the bed right away,
then I shave,
then I move to the kitchen and take a spoonful of olive oil,
and right there, I take my cholesterol medication with one packet of lemon juice.
This series of steps may not seem like much, but it helps me clearly recognize the start of the day and makes sure I don’t forget my medication or health management routine.
Once I set these habits in a specific order and place, they became much less bothersome, and I even started to feel a sense of emptiness when the routine gets disrupted.
The ripple effect of small habits
As the saying goes, “Habits are a system, not willpower,” the small actions we usually pass over without much thought add up to create big results.
The same is true for plastic surgery procedures and operations.
After patients decide to undergo a procedure after long consideration, small changes in daily habits can have a major impact on recovery and maintaining the results.
For example, things like applying cold compresses at the scheduled time after surgery or consistently following supportive dietary measures.
Wrapping up
In addition to what I introduced today, 『Atomic Habits』 is full of really practical content, including
how to systematize habits,
the principles for reducing bad habits,
and strategies for maintaining habits without motivation.
When I have time, I’ll introduce some of the other parts as well.
When small habits pile up, they eventually create big changes.
Why not try creating one of your own routines today?
Thank you.
