Baek Wonjang Rating ★★★☆☆
Hello.
This is Baek Wonjang’s food review.
I’d like to briefly review one of the old Chinese restaurants in Sinsa-dong.
It’s a neighborhood Chinese restaurant that has a lot of Blue Ribbon Survey stickers and is really, really famous, and its signature dish is gochu tangsuyuk.
Gadam
I was curious because it’s a long-running Chinese restaurant that even got 2 stars on the Siksin app, so I visited once!
Here’s a review from a visit for two, where we ate gochu tangsuyuk and jajangmyeon ~ haha
I heard it recently appeared on Sung Si-kyung’s Meoktteolde.

Location: 167 Eonju-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
Parking: Parking in front of the restaurant, or use the public parking lot.
This is a review from a weekday afternoon visit.
You’ll probably be wondering about parking, and there are a few spaces available in front of the restaurant.
But the parking lot wasn’t spacious, so I used the public parking lot diagonally across the street.
About 2,000 won for 30 minutes...

This is a long-established Chinese food favorite in Apgujeong (Sinsa-dong) with 2 stars on the Siksin app. The score is a whopping 4.2.
It feels like... probably no one in the neighborhood doesn’t know about it.......
It reportedly appeared on Sung Si-kyung’s Meoktteolde and had huge waiting lines, but when I visited in the afternoon, it wasn’t like that.
Gochu tangsuyuk is the most beloved signature menu item, and we added jajangmyeon as our meal.

The large white sign makes it easy to find.
At the entrance, although they’re gone now... there were plenty of MangoPlate stickers and Blue Ribbon stickers.
I didn’t know it at the time, but there was a break time! It seems best to avoid visiting between 15:00 and 17:00.
Interior

The interior has a design full of cherry-colored furniture.
The mistake for the day was probably bringing a newborn.....
Eating with a child means everything gets hectic...ㅠㅠ

It was a bit chilly that day, and warm tea was served first.
It helped warm us up while we waited.
Meal begins!!!

There’s nothing particularly special about the basic table setting.
It’s the standard setup for a classic Chinese restaurant.
If there’s anything distinctive, it’s that there’s kimchi.
Oh! You may find it somewhat noticeable that the owner and the staff communicate in Chinese.
That’s probably proof that it’s a good restaurant, right?

gochu tangsuyuk (37,000 won)
Finally, the gochu tangsuyuk arrived!
The visuals are very overwhelming.
You can see large pieces of chili pepper scattered throughout the tangsuyuk.
And, very unusually, nurungji is served with it.
Of course, the nurungji that gets soaked in the sauce will be a bit soggy, right?

Because the newborn kept crying the whole time that day... there aren’t many photos.
The visuals are so uniquely distinctive, haha.
I guess you’re supposed to alternate between the nurungji and the tangsuyuk?
![[Sinsa-dong Restaurant] Gadam - Blue Ribbon Survey Jajangmyeon and Gochu Tangsuyuk Chinese Restaurant. image 12](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/3xr380ejvg/naver_blog/dentist_baek/assets/by_hash/0808626772e6fa9418c67e2e0f8907c69cc1203984b61ca062618f8a41ea8c8a.jpg)
The tangsuyuk itself seems to be fried with a fairly thick batter, not a thin one.
Because it comes baek-jja in sauce, it gives the impression of being lightly soaked in the sauce.
Some of the nurungji is crispy, while some of it feels soggy.
I thought it would be extremely spicy, but it didn’t feel that spicy.
Instead, it also didn’t have a sweet-and-sour feeling.
The visuals are unique, but the taste feels a bit ordinary? Still, keeping an ordinary flavor takes a lot of effort too..
The nurungji keeps your mouth from getting bored, but let’s not forget that because there’s nurungji, there’s less fried meat..

Jajangmyeon (10,000 won)
A tangsuyuk that seems made in the old style!!
On top of noodles that look like hand-pulled noodles, the jajangmyeon sauce is placed just right and catches the eye.
![[Sinsa-dong Restaurant] Gadam - Blue Ribbon Survey Jajangmyeon and Gochu Tangsuyuk Chinese Restaurant. image 14](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/3xr380ejvg/naver_blog/dentist_baek/assets/by_hash/1ae930417267f0975207cfa92a4b67994055fb54ccf738073f668278c9afca1a.jpg)
To be honest, just by looking at it, the jajangmyeon gives off a strong feeling of belonging to a long-established Chinese restaurant.
Personally, after being a little disappointed with the gochu tangsuyuk, I ended up really looking forward to the taste of the jajangmyeon.

It was a pretty good bowl of jajangmyeon that satisfied that expectation.
Not a fancy, popping flavor, but a comforting bowl of jajangmyeon where the texture of the noodles and the savory black bean sauce blended well together.
It was a meal that felt like a battle...
It was delicious as always today too!
Conclusion
Maybe because I was so distracted..
For me, the gochu tangsuyuk had a rather bland taste.
When I dine out, the category I go to most often seems to be Chinese restaurants. That’s how much I like Chinese food, and when I like a place, I keep going back again and again.
For someone like me, when it comes to tangsuyuk, the texture and savoriness from the crispy fried coating — and the deliciousness from the sweet sauce — are really important... In that sense, I think this was a tangsuyuk that didn’t suit my taste very well.
For my wife and me, who love the sweet, crispy-outside-soft-inside tangsuyuk at Movie Jang near Kyung Hee University, this tangsuyuk with quite a lot of nurungji and a preference for spicy savory flavor rather than sweetness didn’t seem to suit us... haha
The jajangmyeon had the clean, time-tested flavor of a traditional bowl of jajangmyeon. A bowl with nothing to criticize, and a charm that doesn’t make you uncomfortable.
Taste: ★★★☆☆
Value for money: ★★★☆☆
Accessibility: ★★★★☆
Facilities: ★★☆☆☆
Parking: Free parking in front of the restaurant, or a nearby public parking lot.
Usually, Blue Ribbon Survey / MangoPlate restaurants seem to have been good, but rather than the food being bad, I think this was a Chinese restaurant that simply went in a different direction from the kind of gourmet experience I personally pursue.
Maybe... it’s also because I ate this meal while soothing a newborn. Anyway... this is a small review wishing there had been a more sweet-and-sour flavor that might suit MZ tastes a bit more.. haha
Thank you for reading my personally paid restaurant review today as well,
I’ll try to become a memorable restaurant coordinator with carefully selected posts. :)
This was Dental Director Baek, an aspiring implant master and gourmet.
Thank you!!
