Hello?
I’m Baek Won-seon, the chief dentist at Lev Dental Clinic in Nonhyeon-dong.
Last time, I showed a case where we extracted a front tooth for several reasons and then placed an implant.
The main point was: a broken front tooth can be extracted and implanted right away, but if there is severe pus in the front tooth, let’s wait exactly one month before doing the implant surgery!!! That way, the bone grafting turns out nicely~ That was the point.
Thank you for enjoying it.
But as I was looking at it, something about the front tooth crown didn’t feel completely perfect....
In fact, both patients were cases treated at the clinic I used to run, not the current Lev Dental Clinic in Nonhyeon-dong... so these were cases that had been entrusted to an outside dental lab rather than our in-house ceramist.
Our current Lev Dental Clinic in Nonhyeon-dong is a top-end clinic where we make every front tooth ourselves, handling front-tooth treatment at the highest level!!
It was disappointing that the work I had posted didn’t look as beautiful, so I felt a lot of regret... (but at the time, it was the best we could do......)
So I prepared this: let me show you what a high-quality front tooth crown made directly at our Lev Dental Clinic looks like.

Tooth fracture.
I broke a tooth while eating. Do I have to have it extracted and get an implant?

A male patient in his 60s visited our clinic.
He came because his front tooth had broken.... A natural tooth had simply snapped.
He probably has strong chewing force, and because he bites down deeply, his front tooth would have been under too much force.
Over time, accumulated external force caused the tooth to break one day.

If you look at the space between the upper and lower teeth, you can imagine how much force the tooth had been receiving to break like that..
Poor front tooth... The patient came after hearing at another clinic that it would need to be extracted and replaced with an implant, and asked whether it could be saved.

But here’s the thing? Looking from the biting surface, it seems like quite a bit of the tooth remains.
You can see that quite a lot of the tooth is still left on the palate side.
So... we decided to try saving it.
If too much of the crown is lost,
you need root canal treatment and a post placed.

Interestingly, the patient said there was almost no pain. It looked like it would hurt just by looking at it.....
To solve the problem of the shortened broken tooth, we intentionally performed root canal treatment.
This is a treatment that must be done before placing a post in the tooth.
Root canal treatment removes the nerve inside the tooth and fills it with material... in a sense, it takes away the tooth’s life.
However, in this situation, we needed to place a post to save the tooth, and root canal treatment was necessary in order to place that post.

After completing the root canal treatment, we took another look at the front tooth.
One of the most difficult treatments in the world:
Making a single crown for the center front tooth.

Before starting treatment,
our Gangnam Nonhyeon-dong Lev Dental Clinic had the responsible ceramist (dental technician) who would make the front-tooth zirconia crown come in to examine the tooth’s color and shape.
Then, if the patient had any specific preferences, we recorded them in detail so we could reflect them in the final result.

In this patient’s case, he wanted it matched to the color of the opposite front tooth.
The tooth color was tricky as well...
We were in a situation where we had to make a single zirconia crown for the front tooth, one of the most difficult treatments in the world.
We planned to build porcelain on top of the zirconia crown.
You could call it PFZ.
And we also performed gum contouring.

Dr. Joo Seong-woo, the head of prosthodontics at our Nonhyeon-dong Lev Dental Clinic, beautifully prepared the tooth.
It was almost like creating something from nothing.. A thick post had been placed inside that remaining tooth.
If you look closely, there is a slightly darker area near the root, and that is the patient’s original tooth,
while the part that is mostly a lighter color is the post (fiber post) + resin core.
And although it is not very noticeable, the gingival margin was also shaped to make it as similar as possible to the symmetrical center front tooth.

Taking a photo with a black background like this helps a lot in making the color more objective.
These days, to measure color more accurately, we create an environment with as similar a light source as possible and use equipment that can capture the color and record it for fabrication.

If you look from the biting surface, you can also see that the tooth margin formed quite deeply.
A difficult case to fabricate, with many tooth patterns and a unique color...
How did it turn out?

This is a zirconia crown made to reflect the color and shape of the adjacent teeth as much as possible.
More precisely, it is a zirconia crown built up with porcelain, right?
Not only the shape of the tooth, but also the slightly grayish tone, the deep beige color that feels like the traces of time, and even a slight striped pattern were reflected in the fabrication.

Just as almost no one has skin that looks flawless in front of a digital camera, it is actually extremely difficult to achieve this level of fit, shape, and color in photos.
At this level, the natural look inside the patient’s mouth goes beyond imagination.!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before & After

Finally, I’ll wrap up with before-and-after photos of the center front tooth on the upper left.
If you’ve ever consulted about front-tooth prosthetic treatment, you may know this:
Dentists often recommend even numbers. 2, 4, 6, 8....
If you look closely at laminate veneers, most of them are also done in even numbers!!!
That’s because the human eye is very good at catching left-right differences.
So cases like this with an odd number... especially just one prosthesis, are the most difficult.
In an environment where everything is natural teeth except for one crown, making it look natural in a proper way is... like creating a work of art.
Especially in this patient’s case, being in his 60s,
the natural wear of the teeth was significant, the color was unique, and there were faint horizontal stripes as well.
The difficult conditions overlapped, and the difficulty level shot up!!!
Rather, this became a treatment where simply making it white and pretty would have been easier-
At our Gangnam Nonhyeon-dong Lev Dental Clinic, when carrying out front-tooth treatment, we place the greatest importance on communication between the in-house lab and the dentist. And sometimes, the lab staff and the attending doctor participate together in the treatment room to talk with the patient and do our best to reflect what they want.
Although it may be a case captured in just a few photos, our dental technicians spend hours creating a single perfect front tooth crown. I would like to always express my gratitude to the lab staff who work so hard.
