I’m Baek Wonjang’s Mukshulang.

On Friday, my day off, I was thinking about what to eat on the way out for a little trip.....

I suddenly wanted to go to Cheonjiyeon after a long time!

I had visited the Cheonjiyeon next to Walkerhill before... but disappointingly, there isn’t one in Seoul, only in the suburbs.....

I considered going to the Ilsan branch, but gave up because it was too far... Instead, I decided to scout out another great marinated pork rib place.

After browsing the Siksin app hard, I found a place with parking and quite a long history.

Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo Main Branch

As the name says, this is Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo Main Branch. It’s a popular restaurant near Gongdeok Station, and a true old-school spot that has been collecting Blue Ribbon Survey stickers every year.

Location: 1st floor, 313-1 Tojeong-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Parking: First Parking Lot, 2 hours free.

It’s in the back alley of Exit 1 of Gongdeok Station, around the alley famous for pork ribs and jokbal/bo ssam restaurants. It’s in that area.

The restaurant has two entrances, but whether you go in through the front door or the back door, you’ll be surprised by how large it is.

There seem to be quite a few great pork rib places in Mapo... Let me review this one.

Siksin app rating

This is a restaurant with 2 stars on the Siksin app.

Even the representative photo looks really appetizing, doesn’t it???

It has been keeping its place since 1956... a restaurant that has stood here for 69 years, and it has also been designated as one of Seoul’s Future Heritage sites.

Since it’s only a 1-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gongdeok Station, I think it’s a good place for gatherings too.

There was another excellent restaurant nearby, Asojeong, right? Haha

That’s also my favorite naengmyeon place, and it appeared on Delicious Guys :)

Please keep that in mind!

Outside

If you found this exterior, that’s the front entrance. Haha

At a glance, you can immediately feel its long history.

It proudly shows off its grand exterior with red? black? bricks..

If you found this entrance, it’s probably the back door!

There were as many as 11 Blue Ribbon Survey stickers attached...

If you look at the back of the door, there’s also a Red Ribbon sticker made in collaboration with Coca-Cola :)

Inside

As soon as you walk in, you can’t help but be surprised by how big the place is.

It reminded me of those large barbecue places in Sinchon back in school days~..

Even on a weekday afternoon, there were many people enjoying a beer with their pork ribs.

The large kitchen gave me a sense of just how big Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo really is.

They serve the first side dishes themselves, but anything beyond that is self-service.

Of course, you have to eat the marinated pork ribs, right? That’s why I came all the way here!!!!

I ordered pork ribs according to the number of people, and when I said I wanted mul naengmyeon, they told me I could order black-rice naengmyeon.

So I added one naengmyeon and one bowl of rice~

Start of the meal!!!

The basic table setting is quite simple.

Honestly, when you’re eating marinated pork ribs, you don’t really need much else. Haha. White rice and meat are enough, right?

The lettuce and scallion salad are visually ordinary.

There are pine mushrooms that are good for grilling together, and pickled radish for wrapping.

There was ssamjang, a special sauce, and even napa cabbage kimchi...

Honestly, there weren’t many side dishes that I personally liked...!?

Marinated pork ribs, 3 servings (250 g per serving, 18,000 won)

The 3 servings of marinated pork ribs came out right after ordering.

The glaze is shinier than I expected!

It really makes you think, “This must be well marinated.”

The color is exceptional. It gives off a certain expert feel..

It’s disappointing that this isn’t charcoal-grilled.

Honestly, you need charcoal for that flavor... gas heat or microwave heating feels a bit off.. for a place charging 18,000 won, that was disappointing.

As it sizzles away, it cooks quickly.

You can tell at a glance, right?

Although the name is marinated pork ribs, it isn’t actually rib meat...

Pork ribs here are like the baby back ribs you know from Outback! Since pigs have small ribs, they can’t produce such wide cuts of meat..... In other words, it’s pork neck. Haha

I was grilling hard, but honestly, it does look tasty.

Ah!! And... this place doesn’t have a ventilation system.

You just grill it, take a sip of smoke, eat a bite of meat, and repeat~~~~

I cut it nicely, took a photo, and now I’ll try it.

Personally, I think the appearance is pretty good.

The lean meat and fat are well balanced.

It wasn’t an extremely stimulating flavor, but it still had a deep, refined, and delicious taste.

There’s a sense of refinement that you wouldn’t expect from the restaurant’s interior and signboard!!

Just keep grilling the rest and eating them.

And as you grill, you’ll notice there are three or four pieces that are actual pork ribs!

It tastes even better when you tear off and eat the rib meat. Great~

Even looking at it again, the marinated pork ribs were delicious.

Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo Main Branch near Gongdeok Station. It felt like I had found a real gem after a long time.

By the time the meat is nicely grilled, the mul naengmyeon starts to appear!

Black-rice naengmyeon (9,000 won)

A large bowl of mul naengmyeon with an impressive appearance and generous portion is served.

The broth has just a slight MSG aroma, like the kind we used to eat when we were young...

And the noodles are black-rice naengmyeon with a feel somewhat like buckwheat noodles that seem easy to digest.

Adding finely chopped aged kimchi balances the flavor.

It’s surprisingly good?

If you take some onto a plate, you’ll feel it even more.

With these days getting hotter, the mul naengmyeon at Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo Main Branch is truly art haha

It’s the kind of dish you keep eating without stopping~ lol

As I enjoyed the delicious marinated pork ribs wrapped in lettuce, the meal came to an end...

I ended up discovering another great restaurant in Mapo after a long time :)

It was a rewarding time. Haha

I really ate well and deliciously today too.!!!

Conclusion

A traditional-style marinated pork rib restaurant near Gongdeok Station!!!

I was really happy to find a good restaurant through the Siksin app after such a long time. Haha

Actually, I used to take lessons at a screen golf range near Aewhae Station before, so I had looked around for quite a few restaurants in this area.

I felt a lot of regret that I only came to know about the marinated pork ribs at Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo now!

In my personal opinion, compared to Cheonjiyeon, the taste is a little more refined and layered.

It’s hard to beat Cheonjiyeon when it comes to a punchy pork rib flavor...

However, there is quite a big difference in the facilities.

Cheonjiyeon usually has a clean store and excellent ventilation facilities... but Mapo Jinjja Wonjo Max Daepo had many shortcomings in terms of facilities... There wasn’t even a basic ventilation system... and they were using gas instead of charcoal.

That part was quite disappointing ㅠㅠㅠ

Parking: 2 hours free parking at Jaeil Building.

The taste was not bad, but I lowered the score because the facilities were lacking and outdated.

I’m sure the owner has already made plenty of profit!!! I’d love to see it remodeled when there’s time so we can enjoy even better facilities :) Oh right... then it might lose a lot of that old-school charm, so maybe that would be worse...

Anyway, just the fact that there’s a Blue Ribbon Survey-rated marinated pork rib restaurant near Gongdeok Station, right in the heart of Seoul, is something to be grateful for, isn’t it?!

It was nice to find a new favorite restaurant after a long time, and it made the day even happier because I was with people I enjoyed dining with ^^
