Hello.
This is Baekwonjang’s gourmet guide.
This Friday, I also took the day off and went looking for a delicious beef rib and pork rib restaurant.
Last week, our family visited Songdo Galbi Guri Walkerhill Branch, a place we love,
and today I’m sharing my review of the famous Songchu Gamagol Main Branch.
This was my first time eating meat at Songchu Gamagol. Haha.
Songchu Gamagol Main Branch
There must be a reason why there are so many chain locations....?
If I remember correctly, Songchu Gamagol seemed to have had some kind of issue at one point......
Anyway, since it’s such a famous place, I visited on my day off.

Parking: Free when using the restaurant.
Actually, I didn’t realize today was a public holiday and went to Paraspara first....
After being very disappointed by the enormous crowd, I was so hungry on the way back that I stopped here.
I had heard that nearby Manpoyeonmok and Jinheunggwan were also quite famous, but I was craving grilled meat, so I chose this place!
There is a new building and the main building, and I heard the new building only serves beef barbecue. So I went to the main building to try a variety of things.

The new building can be seen in the distance. It’s quite grand in size.
I don’t even have time to love, so how can I hate...
That phrase really stayed with me deep in my heart. I want to live without hatred.....

The place along the road is the main building.
It looks like a place where you can eat more casually and cost-effectively, with pork barbecue and lunch specials.

It would be good to refer to the Songchu Gamagol Main Branch menu board outside. Haha.
I came because I was curious about this and that, so I went in thinking: let’s order 1 serving of beef ribs, 1 serving of pork ribs, plus galbitang and bibim naengmyeon! Haha.

As you can tell when you go inside, the building is quite large.
The first floor is mainly for dining, and if you want to grill meat, you have to go to another floor.
We went down half a floor and moved to a seat where we could set up the grill!
I was worried it might be inconvenient because we had a baby, but surprisingly, they were even more welcoming.
It seems like a very good place for family gatherings in Yangju-si.

They provide a baby chair, and it was surprisingly sturdy and had wheels, so it was really convenient.
They also brought out baby tableware separately, so I thought this was a place that is very well prepared.
Songchu Gamagol Main Branch, as famous as its name suggests, was a place that had everything well prepared!

Before grilling meat, the most important things are whether there is charcoal and what condition the charcoal is in.
They did have to light it with gas, but the charcoal seemed to be in good condition~!

Gamagol Galbi (1 serving, 35,000 won)
Gamagol Galbi is beef ribs.
There were no Korean beef ribs; you had to choose between New Zealand or American beef.
I heard there are some differences in the cuts? The American beef was a bit more expensive.
I figured there probably wouldn’t be a huge difference, so I ordered the Gamagol Galbi.
It looks even more delicious in photos, but in person the ribs look a bit dark (?) I think it’s because of the seasoning.

Hansik Don Premium Grill (1 serving, 27,000 won)
The two round pieces on the right are 1 serving of premium grilled domestic pork neck.
As expected, it’s pork ribs with a similar seasoning flavor, and the fact that they grill it together is the characteristic.
We didn’t have to grill much ourselves; most of the time the staff grilled it for us~

While the meat is grilling, the basic table setting is prepared.
Still, we should look at the quality of each side dish one by one, right?

There are various side dishes here and there..
Personally, I didn’t think the quality was outstanding.
The main dish is definitely the meat.
In that sense, although there are fewer side dishes, I think Songdo Galbi (Cheonjiyeon), where each one is tasty, is better.

It grills up very appetizingly.
They thoughtfully grilled the pork neck a little more slowly, so the timing worked out quite well ^^

Then I try a bite of the beef ribs.
This is just my personal opinion, but it’s quite delicious.
Really... it’s bold, but it has a refined taste. It seemed like they really know what they’re doing.
Personally, I was enjoying it and eating very happily...

The pork neck grill, cooked a little later!
It may look a bit chewy in the photo, but it’s surprisingly sous-vide-like and juicy, and tasty.
(I could really feel the staff’s pride!)

Personally, the Hansik pork grill was also truly excellent.
Whether beef or pork, it paired well with plain rice, and it was also a great match with galbitang or bibim naengmyeon.
I was surprised at how good it was. As expected... there really is a reason they have so many branches...

Traditional Galbitang (15,000 won)
The most basic galbitang on the menu, Traditional Galbitang.
It comes out quite hot, and the portion was generous, so it was good for a family of three to share.

Hmm.. to be honest, it had quite a lot of substantial ribs inside!!!!
The portion is pretty large, right?
I do have a good appetite, but even my daughter, who had just turned one, ate it well and enjoyed it. It was a solid, tasty flavor.
Even if this were just a galbitang-only restaurant, it would have done well.

The kimchi served with it looked very fermented, but it tasted good.
(I’m not very good with overly fermented kimchi.. haha)

Buckwheat Bibim Naengmyeon (11,000 won)
This is buckwheat bibim naengmyeon with a light broth underneath.
The visual is oddly nice.
Since it’s made with buckwheat, it’s obvious that it will be easy to digest.

The noodles aren’t that thin.
And they’re glossy. Not a matte feel, but a glossy, slippery noodle texture. Haha.
They also have some thickness, so they’re satisfying to chew.
As for the taste, what more can I say~ it’s that familiar seasoned flavor :) My wife, who was eating with me, liked it too.
It was a day where everything flowed so smoothly and deliciously ^^
We really, really enjoyed the meal today as well.!!!
Conclusion
The taste is good, but the distance is a big downside ㅠ.ㅠ
Songdo Galbi (Cheonjiyeon), which I introduced last time, is a place I rank as a top-tier restaurant for bold Hansik pork barbecue.
After all, when it comes to seasoned ribs, they need to have a bit of a punch to be memorable, right? A flavor that pushes the line just enough is the kind that comes back to mind after some time—that’s the charm of this place.
Compared to that, Songchu Gamagol Main Branch had a more refined kind of deliciousness.
But for sure, it still delivered the enjoyment of bold seasoned grilled meat. It kept a good balance while putting a memorable flavor in your mouth, and I felt it was clearly the work of a skilled master with real experience.
The overwhelming presence of the new building, the calm stream flowing by, and the comfort of the Starbucks drive-thru across the street are bonuses.

Value: ★★★★☆
Accessibility: ★★★☆☆
Facilities: ★★★★☆
Parking: Free parking available when using the restaurant.
I can’t say it’s cheap. As expected from a well-branded place, they charge a reasonable price.
One reason the downside feels so big is definitely accessibility. Being far away and hard to get to is always a major drawback...
I looked it up and it seems there are 4–5 branches in Seoul, but I do wonder whether those branches can really reproduce the deliciousness of the main building. Haha. That just means it was very, very delicious!
If you like seasoned pork barbecue, this seems like a place worth visiting at least once.
How should I put it.. it was a place that added a spoonful or two of “I want to come back” to the standard kind of deliciousness.
Ah, I heard Paraspara Seoul was sold to Hanwha Hotels & Resorts today and is being reborn under the name “Anto”..... but there were really, really too many people, and it was such a shame that it had absolutely no sense of privacy. I wish it could have kept a more premium image.......
In terms of price, I don’t think it’s especially cheap. You know that even places like Myeongwolgwan or Samwon Garden, where you go with a discount, aren’t all that different in price, right!?!?!? And if you’re someone who came from far away because you were curious, you can order by the serving, so try a little bit of everything~
