Hello. I’m Baek Won-seon, the chief director of Rev Dental Clinic at Sinsa Station.
Laminates are a treatment that, once done, can be used for 5 years, 10 years, or even longer.
Since you’re going to do it anyway, don’t you end up searching and looking around more than you expected in order to get a good treatment?
Even among clinics that are said to be famous, they do not tell you where, by whom, or how the laminate is made.
As the chief director of Rev Dental Clinic for Sinsa Station laminates, this is a short post about the laminates our medical team carefully considers and makes directly.

I want to improve the color and shape of my teeth.
I want perfectly white front teeth, even if they look a little artificial.

This patient had very straight and beautiful teeth. Their preparation before getting beautiful front teeth was perfect, right?
They had already completed orthodontic treatment.
They visited because they wanted to improve the shape and color of their teeth.
I asked ChatGPT once.
How much tooth structure do you have to remove for laminates?

I even included a link in the photo. Haha.
It says that only 0.3 to 0.7 mm needs to be removed for laminates.
One mark on the ruler is 1 mm... so 0.3 to 0.7 mm is truly, truly a very small amount.
And depending on the area, it is also possible to do no-prep laminates, where nothing is shaved at all.

In the past (by past, I mean around 10 years ago), the amount of tooth reduction needed for laminate treatment was this much!!!
The more tooth structure you remove, the thicker the laminate becomes, right? That was the choice made in order to prevent breakage.
However, with the development of materials, it became possible to make laminates that do not break even when the teeth are shaped only a very little bit (that is, even when the laminate is thinner).
How does Rev Dental Clinic make laminates?
Let me briefly show you a video we keep playing in our clinic. It’s surprisingly fun to watch.
We do also make the highest-end handmade laminates, crafted stitch by stitch by hand,

but in most cases, we design the laminates with a 3D CAD program (the first part of the video),
and then use the milling machine we have at our hospital—Dentply Sirona CEREC Primemill, the most expensive milling machine available in Korea,
or the domestically produced major-company Aled Dentistry milling machine, 5X-450,
to carve a ceramic block (a ceramic raw material?) into the shape of a laminate.
(We do every step directly inside our dental clinic! We do not work with an outside dental lab for laminate production.)
Isn’t it amazing? Haha. It’s a wonderful world.

The piece made this way is then fired like porcelain and colored to finish it.
Do you feel how important it is in this entire process to have a dentist who designs the smile line and
a dental technician who creates the final result?

For laminates, collaboration between the medical team and the dental technician is extremely important.
Tooth shaping and gum contouring are performed.

To create laminates with the ideal color and shape, a little tooth shaping and gum contouring are essential.

To remember the exact tooth shape, we take photos before treatment like this.
Because there is only very minimal tooth shaping, we need to keep looking at the teeth while comparing them with the initial photos.

After shaping the teeth, we capture the tooth color!
This is a photo after the gum contouring and tooth shaping were completed.
I think it was even less than 0.3 to 0.7 mm.

Because almost everyone has upper teeth that cover the lower teeth, lower front tooth laminates require laminates with a thickness of about 1 mm.

A smile photo before treatment is absolutely necessary.
The teeth should suit my skin tone, lip color, lip shape, and smile line.
There are actually many things to consider when making laminates, such as left-right symmetry and the position of the midline.
That is why it is even more important to choose a clinic where you can meet a dental technician who will make your laminates.
So, what are the treatment results like?
Before choosing a dental clinic for laminate treatment, it would be good if you could check that clinic’s skill.
At Rev Dental Clinic at Sinsa Station, we have Director Go Seok-ho, who has been performing laminate treatments for over 10 years, leading the team, and we also have the chief director, a board-certified periodontist, and a board-certified prosthodontist working together to provide good care.
We also keep talking until the treatment result matches the patient’s needs, and if necessary, we make revisions.
Since a dental technician is on site, most revisions can be done on the same day.

If you were asked to choose the most precious teeth among all your teeth, many people would choose the front teeth.
When it comes to determining a person’s impression, the importance of the lips, gums, and teeth that make up the lower one-third of the face cannot be overstated.
Before choosing where and by whom to receive laminate treatment, I wrote this brief post for those who want to learn what laminates actually are, how they are made, and what efforts are involved.
The amount of tooth shaping is actually very small. That said, claiming that no tooth shaping at all is done would be a lie.
If you make teeth without removing the 0.3 to 0.7 mm mentioned by ChatGPT, in the end you would only be left with very pale front teeth like xylitol gum...
I hope you become a wise consumer who is not swayed by no-prep laminate advertisements..
