[Euljiro Restaurant] Uraeok - Review of the delicious sirloin and short ribs. Hanwoo soup rice + kimchi and radish kimchi were so good..

I’m Baek, director of Leve Dental Clinic near Sinsa Station.

Recently, we’ve been so loved by our patients that I’ve been busier than expected, so I haven’t been able to post as much.

I’ve been too busy to get around much, but after a long time, I had some good news at home, so I went out to enjoy a delicious meat meal!!

Uraeok

It’s originally famous as a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant with long lines.. We visited on a late weekday lunch (or early dinner?) time, so we were able to go in right away without waiting!!

It’s so famous for Pyongyang naengmyeon that I think there are probably very few people who don’t know it.

It’s a restaurant near Euljiro 4-ga Station, and it’s less than a 5-minute walk from Exit 4!

Since it’s not far from the Seun Redevelopment District 2 area, I also wondered how much of this neighborhood scenery will remain...

Outside

I hadn’t seen it in a while, but the entrance felt as familiar as if I had seen it yesterday.

That black building always stays in your memory, right? Haha

Across the street there is a spacious valet parking lot.

It costs 3,000 won, and only card payments are accepted.

The Michelin Bib Gourmand stickers on the building exterior are impressive.

The red color, reminiscent of Ferrari red, really stands out. Haha

Next to them, the Blue Ribbon Survey and Red Ribbon Survey stickers are stylishly attached. ^^

I heard that even in this cold weather, you still have to wait...

We visited a little after 3 p.m. on a weekday, and since there is no break time, that was a huge advantage. Thanks to that, we got in with no waiting. Haha

Interior

There were more people dining alone than I expected.

Most came alone or in pairs! Maybe they were office workers from the area..

This is the menu at Uraeok, a popular restaurant in Euljiro.

Personally, I think Uraeok’s Pyongyang naengmyeon is a bit bland, so it’s not my favorite.

I prefer Seogwanmyeonok or... Seolnoon.. haha... If you’re interested, search my blog ㅎㅎ

If it were a normal day, I would have ordered naengmyeon, but today I came determined, so I ordered 1 serving of sirloin, 1 serving of short ribs, and one bowl of Hanwoo soup rice.

For reference... if you only order meat, you get a green onion kimchi style side dish, but you need to order the soup rice to get radish kimchi and napa cabbage kimchi!

Let’s start the meal!!!

After being shown to our seat... we were about to grill the meat, but interestingly, they had prepared a bulgogi grill pan.

When I lifted the bulgogi pan, I saw an old-style gas burner underneath? So interesting.

Anyway, I took close-up photos of some of the side dishes.

One notable thing is that the green onion kimchi has quite a bit of a salad-kimchi feel, like something you might eat in the U.S. (!?)

It was subtly savory, maybe because sesame oil was added.

The shredded radish and kimchi broth were both pretty good. I respect a restaurant with a long track record. Haha

1 serving of sirloin (salt-grilled) (150 g, 72,000 won)

Just looking at it, the visual impact is overwhelming as premium Hanwoo raw beef from a female cow appears.

The meat looks heavy, and the freshness is beyond words.

I felt sorry for the female cow that was sacrificed for my meal today...

Of course(!?) they grill the meat for you.

If I grilled it myself... it wouldn’t come out at that level...

It almost looks like the meat is lifting off the bulgogi pan and rising into the air.. haha

Since they need to cut each piece large so we can eat a lot (!) they sliced it into big pieces, just like at any great beef restaurant.

I put a whole piece in my mouth like a rich person and chewed happily.

It tasted really good. With clearly visible marbling, it was savory, and the juices that came out with every bite were excellent.

1 serving of short ribs (180 g, 60,000 won)

This was my first time seeing beef short ribs served whole like this. Haha

It was premium Hanwoo marinated short ribs from a female cow, fully formed like a chunk of short rib meat that would go into braised short ribs.

They cut the rib meat separately right in front of us and grilled it, and the marbling was much better than I expected.

Tender, savory, and once again bursting with juices with every bite—premium short rib meat. It was excellent!

Savory, with a subtle refined richness.

I think I’d order it again if I come back! Uraeok’s beef is really delicious!

Hanwoo soup rice (18,000 won)

Lastly, the Hanwoo soup rice.

If you only order grilled beef, you don’t get the napa cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi, but they come with this dish.

As you can tell just by looking at these kimchi dishes, they have the depth of a side dish that already looks delicious at first glance!

Hanwoo yukgaejang has a red broth, while soup rice has a white broth.

There are various cuts of beef mixed in, so the taste changes depending on how you scoop each spoonful!

It was a beef soup rice with plenty of broth, a different feeling from seolleongtang or galbitang, and personally I thought it tasted quite excellent. And the radish kimchi was really delicious too....

Oh! It’s not in the photos, but when you order beef and grill it, they cut a huge pear and give you a slice each.

That pear, which tasted like it came from a department store, was so delicious... and that’s a secret, but I managed to ask nicely and get one more slice ^^;;

We really, really enjoyed our meal today.!!!

Conclusion

A restaurant famous for Pyongyang naengmyeon is also indeed a great place for grilled beef.

It was delicious.

I had only ever eaten naengmyeon at Uraeok because it’s famous for it, but the soup rice was also delicious and the grilled beef was delicious too!!! I thought the naengmyeon was a bit bland, so it wasn’t my preference... but maybe it was just a menu that didn’t suit my taste.

The taste of premium Hanwoo female-cow grilled beef... I thought it was at a level that didn’t even need my evaluation. It was simply delicious, and my wife and I were happy the whole time while eating. What more could you possibly need from food? Haha

The Vista Walkerhill Myeongwolgwan lunch special was 330,000 won for 510 g, and they also gave some side dishes... so at 72,000 won for 150 g, the sirloin definitely isn’t cheap. Haha

It’s expensive, but I definitely think the taste was excellent. Personally, I thought it was better than Myeongwolgwan.

It looked much fresher too... Uraeok is definitely worth trying for grilled beef.

The soup rice exceeded my expectations even more!

The broth was cleaner and tastier than I expected, the portion was generous, the kimchi was delicious too..... Honestly, I think I need to come back just for the soup rice. Haha It’s a bowl of soup rice in the ten-thousand-won range, and to serve it this consistently is just so lovable!!

This visit was almost ten years since my last one.

One day, when I suddenly feel like grilling some delicious beef, I think I’ll come here since it’s not far from home. There seems to be some waiting on weekends... so weekday is probably the way to go, right?

It was a pleasant experience. ^^
