The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto — Breakfast, Pierre Hermé Macarons and Cakes, Room Service, and a Review of the Food and Drinks at the Bar

Hello.

I’m Dr. Baek, director of Rev Dental Clinic, the go-to clinic for teeth whitening near Sinsa Station.

This was from my trip to Kyoto in April 2026.

This is the second installment about The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto.

Luckily, thanks to my Marriott Titanium status and an NUA, I was able to stay in the Kamogawa Suite.

It feels like I’ve used up all my room-upgrade luck for this year!!!! Anyway, that’s another way of saying I was incredibly happy~

We can’t leave out the food and drinks, right? There are Japanese and French restaurants inside the hotel, but I didn’t get to visit them because of our schedule...

So I’ll share my thoughts on the Pierre Hermé bakery in the lobby, breakfast, and the bar we visited in the evening.

Pierre Hermé Kyoto

There is only one Pierre Hermé location in Kyoto!

It’s The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto location, on the lobby level.

Although you can also find Pierre Hermé at the Lotte Department Store main branch, it somehow felt exciting to see it in Japan too~~

There were large gift packages like these displayed on the wall.

Since you can purchase something for a few tens of thousands of won, I thought they would make nice gifts too!

When you think of Pierre Hermé, you naturally think of macarons, right?

They seemed to cost around 4,000 won each, and there wasn’t much difference from the price I remember seeing in Paris, France, ten years ago.

Let’s get plenty and charge it to the room!

If you look closely, the green-and-purple combination on the right is the Kyoto-exclusive Pierre Hermé flavor.

I tried it, and of course it was delicious, but sadly I don’t remember the exact flavor anymore.

We bought two cakes, and they put them in such beautiful bags.

They cost around 10,000 won each, and even my wife, who isn’t particularly fond of cake, really enjoyed them!

Ordering Room Service at Night

I wasn’t hungry, but I wanted to try something...

So we ordered a small mini burger and fries, which cost around 30,000–40,000 won. Haha

Even though we only ordered one small meal, a very polite and courteous staff member set everything up neatly for us.

Maybe it was because potatoes are so good in Japan, but the fries were excellent too!!

Breakfast

The space on the lobby level became a breakfast area in the morning and a bar at night!

Breakfast was served here in two different styles.

The view outside was the same place where water was gently flowing—the spot we saw when we first entered The Ritz-Carlton.

You can order as many drinks as you like.

For reference, the staff surprisingly didn’t speak much English, so I remember them repeatedly bringing the wrong coffee... haha;;;

There were American and Japanese breakfast options.

Since it was our first day, naturally we ordered one of each to try!!

Breakfast was included, so we enjoyed it on both days and I’ll cover them together here.

I absolutely, unbelievably loved this bakery section!!!!

There are bakeries that take inspiration from Pierre Hermé, and these were also available for sale.. but when you try them.. they are truly.. so delicious..

The bread was filled with such a rich, nutty butter aroma that it would be difficult to find something this good even in many places in Paris, France.

You can fill up just by eating the bread... How can it be this delicious!?

The next section that felt especially abundant was the fresh-pressed juice station.

Do you remember the oranges we received as a welcome amenity? They pressed those into juice...

You know how you can eat lots of delicious fruit in Japan? It felt like all of that fruit had been gathered together in one place...

This was the main station in the center.

In the photo on the left, you can see a variety of fruit that had been neatly prepared and was ready to serve.

There were plenty of strawberries and oranges—just help yourself and eat as much as you like.

Writing this post is making me want to eat it all again.......

On the right were ham and cheese! A lot of Western guests were eating them too. They were delicious.

The salad section isn’t my favorite since I have a very childlike palate.

It was a popular section, though, with many people enjoying it. Why did everything look so fresh just from looking at it?!

Everything served at this main station looked so bright and fresh that it lifted my mood just to look at it..

It seems you can get drinks here.

I didn’t try any.

I brought back a huge amount like this.

The bread looked delicious, the fruit looked delicious, and the fruit juice looked even better...

This was the Japanese-style breakfast set.

Would you call it kaiseki?? I thought the small individual portions were beautifully presented. Hahaha

I think international guests would really like it~ Most of the guests were white, after all.

Japanese dishes that suited our palate quite well.

Rice and miso soup were included too. Haha. It was just the right amount to finish quickly while enjoying the meal.

This was the American breakfast.

Of course, I must have ordered this~~~?

The French toast was incredibly delicious.

We ordered it twice... It was seriously irresistible. You absolutely have to try it..

And the Eggs Benedict were also outstanding—nothing more needs to be said! Absolutely delicious.

After eating so well, the story goes that we also ate another huge breakfast the next day~~

It really was the perfect setting to enjoy breakfast in excellent condition and eat as much as we wanted.

Just looking at it makes me want to go back again.....

The menu may look simple, but every single item was genuinely delicious.

The Bar

After spending the day out, we came back at night and were wandering around the lobby together...

Then we thought, “Let’s go to the bar!!” and hurried over. They close earlier than you might expect;

Since we had come all the way to The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, we had to make the most of the hotel. Haha

The space where we had eaten breakfast transformed at night into a stylish bar, somewhat like the Bulgari Bar.

There was a beautiful menu cover and beautifully written descriptions inside.

They explained in detail what each cocktail looked like and what ingredients it contained!!

There were more food options than expected, as well as a wide selection of whiskies.

Seeing this reminded me of the story about getting a bottle of Yamazaki.. I found it for under 200,000 won~

Just take that as a reference.. We each ordered one cocktail and one mocktail.

They looked beautiful and tasted great too~

My wife ordered chicken even after coming all the way here!!!! You’re going to gain weight! !!!

After a toast, we chatted away without realizing how much time had passed, and before we knew it, the night was over. Hahaha

The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto has a surprisingly diverse selection of food and drinks.

There is a Japanese restaurant as well as a Western restaurant!!!

Unfortunately, the Japanese restaurant was closed on the day we visited, so on our first day we went to a sushi restaurant recommended by a Ritz-Carlton staff member..

But we weren’t particularly satisfied, so after that we stayed inside The Ritz-Carlton and ate and enjoyed ourselves as much as possible...!...

As someone who loves bakery items, I would say the breakfast ranks among the best I’ve ever had.

The variety of breads and their flavors were truly excellent. On top of that, all the fruit was in perfect condition!!!!

There weren’t an enormous number of items, but it was a breakfast that impressed me every time I ate something. I preferred the American style to the Japanese style.

If you have time, stop by the bar. It isn’t enormous or particularly lively and noisy, but it’s a nice place to sit and chat with your family. The prices are reasonable too.
