Hello.
This is Apgujeong Orthodontic Clinic.
Today, I’d like to introduce a cost-effective treatment for children’s malocclusion.
It is PreOrtho.

25.04~25.12
It works similarly to the expensive Frankel appliance, but it has the advantage of not requiring an impression, and because it is a ready-made product, it is much more affordable.
However, PreOrtho is an appliance that is difficult to use if you have rhinitis.
It looks like I’ve already reached the conclusion of today’s topic.

This is a 7-year-old child who came in with the front teeth biting in reverse.

This is an anterior crossbite in which the upper teeth, as a whole, bite in reverse against the lower teeth.

Due to lack of space, the front teeth had come in like crowded teeth.
As a result of skeletal analysis on the X-ray, it was not a bony underbite, so we recommended PreOrtho treatment, and the child wore the appliance diligently for two months.

Two months later, the anterior crossbite of the front teeth had been resolved.

You can see that the front teeth, which had been out of alignment like crowded teeth, have moved back into place quite a bit, right?
PreOrtho does not perfectly align the front teeth, but it does have some effect in guiding them.
However, as the name Pre-Ortho suggests, it is an appliance used to relieve conditions such as anterior crossbite before full-scale orthodontic treatment, so orthodontic treatment will definitely be needed later.
Malocclusions such as anterior crossbite negatively affect jaw growth and can damage the front teeth, so they should be corrected quickly. When the child is still too young for orthodontic treatment, <PreOrtho> can be a useful appliance.
After the crossbite is resolved, PreOrtho is worn only while sleeping, like a retainer.
This is what it looked like at the 3-month regular checkup.

25.09
The front teeth bite has been well maintained, and

25.09
The front teeth that had been out of alignment are arranged more neatly than they were three months ago.
Let’s compare before and after.

For this child, once the baby teeth fall out and the permanent teeth come in, we plan to begin full orthodontic treatment using Invisalign First, a clear aligner for children. At present, the child is under regular observation every three months.
Let’s compare the facial appearance at the first visit and at the regular checkup.

I hope this post is helpful information for parents who are worried about anterior crossbite.
