People who feel stressed because of upper arm fat are really numerous.
Why is upper arm fat especially hard to lose?
A person’s body shape has a genetic tendency for fat to accumulate more in certain areas, or less in others.
It’s like saying some people have lower-body obesity, while others have upper-body obesity.
There are people who work very hard at dieting, lower their body fat percentage, and reach an ideal weight, yet still cannot solve the problem of their upper arms.

Cases where upper arm fat is a concern can be divided broadly into two types.
The first is when there is actually much more fat in the upper arms than in other areas.
The second is when the standard for the desired arm shape itself is unrealistically thin arms.
If there is objectively a lot of upper arm fat, liposuction can be considered.
If the fat is suctioned out, or if an energy device is used, the fat that disappears will not come back.
In that case, the overall volume of the arms has no choice but to decrease.

Liposuction removes the fat cells themselves, so the effect is clear, but some people’s arms look loose and saggy because the skin itself is lax rather than because of the amount of fat.
This is the area commonly called “sagging upper arm fat.”
Because women are affected by hormones, their skin is generally softer overall, so even without a very large amount of fat, it can look saggy.
For people with loose skin like this, exercise is more appropriate than liposuction.
It is important to increase arm muscle mass.
When muscle develops, the area around the arm becomes tighter and firmer.
Even if the amount of fat is similar, the shape of the arm improves and the feeling of sagging decreases.
Just as doing abdominal exercises does not make belly fat disappear, but instead builds muscle and reduces looseness, the same principle applies here.
When muscle grows, it also has the effect of making the skin and subcutaneous fat layer in that area adhere more closely.

These days, many people also get fat-dissolving injections.
If the ingredients in fat-dissolving injections are effective, there is a high possibility of side effects.
In fact, it should be considered that there are almost always side effects.
And there is also the big concern of whether the act of injecting itself can evenly spread through the entire area of upper arm fat and dissolve it.
There are also many cases where the ingredients that dissolve fat are presented like patented or secret recipes.
However, modern medicine is evidence-based medicine.
Substances that have not been proven through large-scale studies are difficult to recognize as medicine.
The biggest problem with fat-dissolving injections is that there are no large-scale clinical trials proving their effectiveness.
So if it were my family, I would not recommend them.

Liposuction also has risks.
However, there is long-term data accumulated over time, and all of the potential problems are already known.
Under the premise that it is performed properly, most of the risks can be considered almost nonexistent.
That said, since it is surgery, large-scale clinical trials are practically impossible.
Lastly, there is the surgically performed “body lifting surgery” that addresses skin tension, meaning sagging skin.
In cases where a person has gained a very large amount of weight and then lost it rapidly, this surgery removes the stretched skin, but the problem is that it leaves scars.
The procedure itself tries to hide the scars near the armpit or along the bra line, but there are clear limits.
The key to managing upper arm fat is not indiscriminate exercise of a specific area, but strengthening firmness through increased muscle mass.
Doing arm exercises centered on the triceps consistently for 2 to 3 months is the most effective.
If the real issue is an unusually large amount of fat, liposuction can be a fundamental solution,
but please remember that fat-dissolving injections, whose effects and side effects are unclear, should be avoided.
Thank you.
