For those considering nose surgery, the most important thing is achieving satisfying results.
Because the nose is located at the center of the face and plays an important role in determining the overall harmony and impression of the face,
it is necessary to thoroughly understand enough information before deciding on surgery and to approach it carefully so that you can receive customized surgery suited to each individual.
So today, I will write about the things that should be considered for the success of a first nose surgery.
First
Skin and soft tissue
When the skin and soft tissue are thin

When you hold the nose with your hand overall and move it left and right, if the skin is thick and does not move flexibly, there may be limitations in the size or height of the nose after surgery. In contrast, if it moves flexibly, meaning the skin and soft tissue are thin, it may be favorable for the surgical result. You can also measure skin thickness with a self-check.

<Self-check method for nose skin thickness>
-> Using a ruler, check 3 to 4 mm, and then measure the thickness on one side of the nasal ala. If it is less than 4 mm, the skin is considered relatively thin.
If it falls within 3 to 4 mm, it can move flexibly, allowing the nose line to come out as intended in surgery. However, if the thickness exceeds 4 mm, the skin is considered thick, and because it cannot adhere tightly, the nose line may differ slightly from the intended result.
Second
Forehead volume
The contour and volume of the forehead

Depending on whether the forehead volume is smooth or has differences in contour, it can affect the results of nose surgery. The line that continues from the forehead to the nose creates an overall difference in the line. If the forehead is flat and the nose is set high in proportion to it, the line between the forehead and the starting point of the nose may appear blunt and at a right angle. In this case, it may be ideal to design the nose with more focus on lifting the tip rather than the bridge, which can create the desired line.
Third
Length of the midface
Length of the midface

The length from the center point of the eyebrows to below the nose is called the length of the midface, and the most ideal proportion can be seen as one-third of the entire face. If the midface is long, it may make you look older, so designing it with more emphasis on the nose tip and raising the angle of the bridge can create the effect of making the midface look shorter, which may produce an ideal line. Conversely, if the midface is short, designing the nose to be high overall can create a stuffy impression, so by focusing on the glabella (the bridge of the nose) rather than the tip and increasing the height there, the length of the midface can be adjusted to an ideal length.
Fourth
Under-eye cheek volume
Under-eye cheek volume (apple volume)

The volume of the under-eye cheek area can also influence the overall feel of the nose line. When surgery is performed with the same nose height, if there is no volume in the under-eye cheek area, both the nose and the face may appear longer overall. If the under-eye cheek volume is excessive, the nose may appear relatively lower in comparison to the under-eye cheek area. Therefore, after clearly understanding each individual’s facial structure and conditions, performing nose surgery with a design suited to them can lead to satisfying results.

So far, I have talked about the conditions that can affect nose surgery. In the case of nose skin thickness, it may be possible to reduce the thickness somewhat by removing a small amount of soft tissue, and the length of the midface, as well as the volume of the forehead and under-eye cheek area, can be partially addressed by additionally injecting fat grafts or fillers. However, because the overall skin thickness, as well as the volume of the forehead, midface, and under-eye cheek area, vary from person to person, there may be limits to fully improving them.

When considering cosmetic surgery, the most important thing is to prioritize safety and choose an appropriate method according to the conditions you have. An excessively high nose or an overly sharp nose can cause side effects over time, so it is better to choose a balanced design together with a specialist.
