How to Quickly Restore a Slightly Chipped Front Tooth (Resin, Veneer, Crown)
Hello.
I am Director Oh Su-hwan, responsible for patients’ oral health for the past 18 years.
Teeth are one of the most noticeable parts of our face.
In particular, front teeth are the first thing people see when smiling,
so even if they are only slightly chipped, it can be very concerning.
However, you may also think, “I probably don’t need treatment right away...”
You may feel, “It doesn’t hurt, so is it really a big deal?”
But even if there is no pain,
it is better to respond appropriately because it can affect not only appearance
but also dental health.
Today, I’ll explain why a slightly chipped front tooth needs treatment,
and how it can be restored, so please spend 3 minutes reading.
Slightly chipped front tooth: does it need immediate treatment?
A slightly chipped front tooth should not be taken lightly.
Even if it looks like a small problem on the outside,
there is a possibility that the internal structure has also been damaged.
To help you understand the seriousness, I’ll show you what can happen if a slightly chipped front tooth is left untreated.
You’ll realize, “I need to get this treated.”

“Teeth become sensitive”
If the chipped area goes beyond the enamel and exposes the dentin, sensitivity can occur.
“A slightly chipped tooth can break more easily”
Once a tooth has cracked or chipped, its durability is significantly reduced and it can be considered weakened.
If you chew hard foods again or if it receives an impact, the chipped area may become larger.
“In severe cases, the nerve can become infected”
If bacteria enter through the chipped area, cavities can develop, or
in severe cases, the nerve inside the tooth can become infected.
In that case, root canal treatment, which many people fear, may be necessary.
“Teeth may change color”
Even if the chipped area is small, the color can change over time or the damage can become worse.
So if you have a slightly chipped front tooth, don’t leave it untreated thinking, “It’ll be fine.”
It is better to receive appropriate treatment.
What are the treatment options for a chipped front tooth?
Treatment options can vary depending on how much the front tooth is chipped.
I’ll explain a few options, from simple cases to more thorough treatment.
If the chip is minor? Tooth resin restoration
If the chipped area is very small, it can be naturally restored using a material called resin.

Because it is a restorative material similar to the color of teeth, it looks natural,
and the treatment itself is relatively simple, making it a less burdensome option.
If the damage is moderate?
Laminates or crown treatment
A laminate is a method of repairing the chipped area by attaching a thin ceramic layer to the front surface of the front tooth.
It can be matched to a tone similar to natural teeth, so it looks natural, and it has the advantage of not changing color.

If the chipped area is wide or the tooth’s strength has weakened significantly,
covering the entire tooth with a crown is also a good option.
Crowns can also be made to look and color like natural teeth,
so both function and aesthetics can be addressed.

However, if more than half of the tooth is chipped and the nerve is exposed,
root canal treatment followed by a crown may be needed,
or in the worst case, extraction and then an implant or bridge may need to be considered.
The longer a slightly chipped front tooth is left untreated,
the more difficult the treatment becomes,
so if you notice a small crack, it is best to get examined as soon as possible.
As you can see, if a slightly chipped front tooth is treated early, it can be resolved with a simple method.
If you are worried because your tooth has chipped, I recommend visiting a nearby dental clinic for a consultation.
